The topic of the day is Prosecco.
๐ฅProsecco is a sparkling wine made from the Glera grape in North East Italy (at least 85% of grapes must be Glera).
๐ฅProsecco is generally cheaper than Champagne, in part because it does not require ageing like Champagne does.
๐ฅProsecco, like many Italian wines, can be defined by the 2 tiers DOC and DOCG, with the latter being the superior tier. In fact, only very few wine-growing areas qualify for DOCG status: ‘Conegliano Valdobbiadene’ and ‘Asolo’.
๐ฅProsecco is a light, refreshing wine, with usually stone fruit aromas along with apple, pear and some citrus. It does not feature any ‘biscuit’ or ‘toast’ aromas like Champagne tends to, also partly down to the fact it is produced in a different way.
๐ฅSome would argue that Prosecco as a wine category is a ‘soft brand’, it is a wine to which consumers do not have any brand loyalty – unlike Champagne which has strong global brands that have developed their consumers’ loyalty over hundreds of years.
Do you think Prosecco really is a soft brand, or do you have a preference to one particular producer? Let me know in the comments!
