This episode of Fidel Gastro Travel is part 2 of Matt’s visit to the one and only Italy.
We start off part 2 of Matt’s trip watching him struggle to fasten his seat belt after eating all of that pasta. The face he makes when trying to get it fastened is actually extremely amusing. Matt is not only a great chef but a bit of a comedian as well.
We see Matt dutifully lugging his bags onto a bus and then up a massive flight of stairs as he heads towards his next destination. He meets with Gino who tells him the good news. Zia Ada has prepared Gnocchi in honor of Matt’s visit. This news seems to make Matt giddy with joy. Clearly Matt enjoys a good Gnocchi. Gino and Matt head to Zia Ada’s house to find that she has in fact made the Gnocchi, which she claims isn’t that good. Matt definitely disagrees. In addition to the decadent looking Gnocchi there is a wide variety of other foods including an entire tray filled with pastries.
Upon leaving Zia Ada’s house Matt makes his way to his Mom’s hometown of Prossedi. Matt meets with his family and endures a question from one of his younger relatives asking him how he managed to get the belly he has. Matt claims he doesn’t know, but his secret is out. Matt loves food, period. Never trust a skinny chef.
Matt and his family go out for dinner and drinks and then he makes a stop by the local fish market. While there he encounters some rather large lobsters and a wide variety of seafood. He stops by the local buffet at the fish market to sample the wares as well.
Next we find Matt in “The Little Athens of Italy”, also known as Pietrasanta. Pietrasanta is a town and comune on the coast of northern Tuscany in Italy, in the province of Lucca. While there Matt enjoys a whole host of different classic Italian dishes, each one looking even better than the last.
He migrates from Pietrasanta over to Bagni Di Lucca. Bagni di Lucca has been known for its thermal springs since the Etruscan and Roman ages. Bagni di Lucca has a rich history and was noted for the first time in an official document of 983CE with the name of “Corsena”. The entire area is in fact rich in chestnut forests, as mentioned in the past by the Roman poet Virgil. While here Matt once again takes one for the team and enjoys what looks like some of the most decadent food ever featured on his travel videos.
After taking in the sites, sounds and incredible food of Italy Matt wraps up his trip.
