Sutton’s, an Italian restaurant in Lexington, announced its last day open to the public was Saturday, according to posts on Facebook.

Several posts announced the restaurant’s owner, Gordon Lewis, has retired after operating for nearly two decades.

His daughter, Sutton, the restaurant’s namesake, made an emotional post that wished her dad well on retirement and said goodbye to an establishment she grew up in.

“To everybody else it might just be a restaurant, but to me, It’s my childhood,” Sutton Lewis said in a post. “It’s years of memories, laughter, hard work, and a piece of me that I’ll never be able to explain to anybody who didn’t grow up the way I did.

“I’ve watched you pour so much of your life into your work, and I know you deserve to finally slow down and enjoy everything you’ve worked so hard for,” Sutton continued. “But, I would be lying if I said a part of me doesn’t want this to happen. I’m not ready to close this chapter.”

She confirmed to the Herald-Leader that the last day the restaurant was open to the public was Saturday. A “permanently closed” flag is listed under the restaurant’s information online.

In a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, Gordon Lewis thanked his staff, family and customers, for year’s of service and support.

“I have been very fortunate and somewhat lucky, and I am in a position now to retire,” Gordon Lewis said. “So I thought, while I have my health, and I still have some energy, I will go ahead and do that. So thanks again for all the wonderful memories.”
