A recall of an Italian pasta dish distributed to Walmart stores nationwide has been expanded to include all lot numbers because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration says.
What we know:
The recall involves Gias Foods’ Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine, which is frozen and packaged in a 22-ounce, yellow plastic bag with UPC# 194346442706, the FDA’s website states.
A routine sampling state labs in Washington and Florida revealed the finished products may contain the bacteria.
An earlier recall, issued last week, included only two lot numbers of the product. The updated recall, issued Thursday, includes all lot numbers.
Why you should care:
The Listeria organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and those with weakened immune systems.
While federal officials say no illnesses have been reported to date, the recalled product is frozen and carries expiration dates extending into September 2027, so packages of the product could still be stored in people’s freezers.
The New York-based manufacturer has halted distribution of the product while it and the FDA continue investigating the source of the bacteria.
What you can do:
Consumers who purchased either affected lot should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund, according to Gias Foods.
Customers with questions can contact Gias Foods at sales@giasfoods.com or 917-675-4890. The company said email inquiries will receive a response within 24 hours.
