Six months ago, we moved to the mountains of Umbria, Italy. We had no idea what we’d find around us.
Since then, we’ve slowly started exploring the place we now call home — discovering medieval villages, waterfalls, vineyards, olive oil traditions, mountain landscapes and outdoor adventures throughout Umbria and the Valnerina.
From Norcia and Vallo di Nera to the spectacular Marmore Falls, we’ve spent the last six months discovering some of the places and experiences that make this part of Italy so special.
We went rafting in Vallo di Nera, visited an olive oil mill and an 800-year-old olive tree, explored the vineyards of Montefalco, went wine tasting, searched for treasures at antique and flea markets, and crossed the Tibetan suspension bridge in Sellano.
We also discovered Bagni di Triponzo, explored the mountains around our new home, and started finding the kind of places you probably wouldn’t come across on a typical trip to Italy.
Some of these places surprised us. Others have already become part of our normal life here.
So if you’re looking for things to do in Umbria, Italy, wondering about places to visit in Umbria, planning a trip to central Italy, or simply curious about what it’s like to live in rural Italy, this is a little glimpse into what we’ve discovered during our first six months here.
And the funny thing is… we’ve only experienced spring and summer in Umbria so far.
We’re still curious to see what autumn and winter in Italy will bring.

— Nicolas & Bieke
We are Nicolas and Bieke, a Belgian couple with two small dogs — Miguel & Mirabel.
In 2025, we sold everything and moved from Belgium to Italy to buy and restore two old stone houses in the mountains of Umbria.
This channel documents the real journey of buying property in Italy as foreigners — from the house search and paperwork to renovating a ruin step by step and building a new life abroad.
🌿 On this channel you’ll find:
– buying a house in Italy
– the real cost of moving to Italy
– renovating old stone houses in Umbria
– navigating Italian laws and bureaucracy
– learning Italian as beginners
– expat life in rural Italy with two dogs
No romantic filters. No “Instagram Italy.”
Just the honest process of starting over in another country.
Our long-term goal is to transform these stone houses into a small boutique B&B and retreat space in the Italian countryside.

Six months ago, we moved to Umbria without really knowing what life here would be like.
Now, six months later, these are some of the places we've discovered.

Umbrië is inderdaad de moeite om te ontdekken ❤ ik had een zalige ontspannende week bij jullie. En ik kom binnenkort terug 😅❤
Not Norsia… It's pronounced Norcha 😅😉
Here we come !
I am very jealous! Great filming.
What a fun and exciting post!! We are so glad that you’re discovering so many great places to visit in your area 🤩
That bridge! I could do it if I didn't have to go back the same way 😮. Your mum is brave!
Love Umbria
Bellissima Umbria ! Un saluto da Le Marche!!
dank voor ons rond te leiden
That's why Umbria is my favorite region of Italy (second place for Valle d'Aosta, third the south of Tuscany…). It's absolutely a marvel and I'm glad you guys are enjoying every bit of it ❤
Prachtig, en je moeder is een held. 💖✨️🤍🫂
W o W, Umbria is breathtaking 🌈❤ Thanks for sharing!
Love, love, love this video. The neighboring towns are lovely. Wow !!!!
I, for one, love flea markets, special treat. I gravitate to antiques for my home.
Your Mom was brave, I would skip the bridge trip, no way. LOL
Thank you for taking us along.
Until, the next video, have a good week.
beautiful country
Watching from NYC!
My family is not from Umbria, but Umbria is probably my favorite region in Italy. Time truly seems to stand still in the Appennine mountains. Will there be world war 3 in Europe and/or the Mediterranean? Go f-ck off! Umbria is where Ukrainians and Russians should meet and learn to calm the f-ck down. Israelis and Palestinians should take a trip to Umbria, and learn to calm the f-ck down.
My favorite place in Europe (outside of Italy) is the Czech Republic. The Good Soldier Svejk is a wonderful lesson for Europe.
"Oh no, yes, we Czechs are part of NATO. What? Head off to war in Russia? Yes sir! You go first and we will follow!" (And there follows the middle finger).
I can see why you chose to live in Italy the wine the olive oil and the scenery blissimo if that’s right.😊
Heel mooi gedaan hoor
Very nice video! Your area of Italy is beautiful!😀
aaaaaah, flea markets…. cannot….. resist….. 🙂
You've chosen an absolutely gorgeous corner of the world to settle in. Thanks for sharing your travels with us! So much to see and do.
Ho apprezzato il fatto che la vostra vacanza non è stato solo visitare il monumenti principali , ma avete vissuto i luoghi , nelle loro mille sfumature , scoprendo , esplorando ed immaginando gli stessi luoghi in stagioni diverse.
It’s beautiful but how invasive to use a drone in Italian villages.
At first I thought it’s yet another couple coming to Italy and doing a vlog. Something in the name you chose appealed, so I clicked on it and started watching.
Then I discovered a beautifully presented discovery of parts of Umbria I’ve never even heard of, let alone visited.
You have introduced me to so many wonderful, hidden Umbrian secrets.
Definitely subscribed!!
Grazie mille😊😊
