Television chef Gennaro Contaldo is set to open a trattoria in Soho.
The Italian cook, known for his association with Jamie Oliver as well as with Antonio Carluccio, will launch the brand-new Bolo on September 25.
Opening at 17 Air Street, previously home to another Italian restaurant called Il Conte, Bolo will seat 32 guests and is apparently inspired by 1970s Italy.
The menu will include Contaldo’s signature pork and beef bolognese (Bolo is named in tribute to the dish) as part of six fresh pasta dishes available daily. One will be named ‘Antonio’ in tribute to Carluccio, a pappardelle with porcini and mascarpone bolo, while another is called ‘The Limone’, which celebrates the chef’s childhood on the Amalfi Coast via the medium of lemons, butter and mint with tagliolini.

Speaking about Bolo, Contaldo says: ‘After more than 60 years in the kitchen, I’m still a romantic at heart. Love the food, love the people you’re cooking for, and everything else will work out beautifully in the end. Italy has given me so much throughout my life, and I’ve always wanted to celebrate that generosity through the food I cook. I want people to come to BOLO, eat well, feel at home and experience a little piece of the Italy that I know and love.’
The menu also includes starters of tomato bruschetta, ’nduja meatballs and bolo arancino, as well as ricotta doughnuts, gelato and sorbetto for dessert.
