SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A new Italian restaurant opened in San Diego’s Little Italy this summer, bringing tableside dining, specialty wines and playful cocktails to the neighborhood.
Maranello, named after the Italian town known as the home of Ferrari, is now open at 2101 Kettner Boulevard. The restaurant’s menu draws inspiration from northern Italy and incorporated nods to the region’s culinary traditions and racing culture.
“While Ferrari put Maranello on the map, it’s the culture of hospitality and gathering around the table that defines the town,” said Andrea Povino, the restaurant’s general manager. “We’ve created a neighborhood restaurant that reflects that way of life.”
Noteworthy menu items
The menu includes Calabrian charcoal bread served with warm whipped butter infused with ‘nduja, a spicy spread, along with gnocco fritto with speck, black-ink Ruotine di Mare pasta with scampi on a lobster bisque sauce, and cand-shaped Ravioli Caramella filled with mortadella, pistachio and Parmigiano.
There’s also the Lasagna Emiliana, which is layered with Bolognese ragù and topped with warm cheese fondue.
Plus, the restaurant’s whole catch of the day is portioned tableside, while Tortellini Prosciutto di Parma is tossed in a Parmigiano Reggiano cheese wheel before serving.

Wine and cocktails
The bar menu features cocktails inspired by Italian ingredients and traditions. Maranello is also featuring Sarti Rosa, an Italian aperitivo recently introduced in the U.S., in it’s Sarti Spritz.

Other cocktails include Pit Stop, made with bourbon, limoncello, honey, lemon and rosemary; a Perpperoni Negroni made with pepperoni-infused gin, Campari and sweet vermouth; and a Truffle Old Fashioned featuring bourbon, black truffle honey, walnut and Angostura bitters.
The wine list focuses on Italian regions and varieties, including Lambrusco, Barolo and Brunello di Montalcino, along with international selections.
Reservations
Maranello is open for dinner from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Reservations can be made online and walk-ins are welcome.
