Eva has to return to the hospital for another week for her last round of care before the baby comes 🤞 Since that means facing another stretch of hospital food, we decided our last Sunday lunch together for a while should be something special: a timballo.

We’ve made plenty of traditional timballi over the years. A timballo is an elaborate Italian dish where pasta and other ingredients are baked together, often inside a crust, to create one seriously impressive centerpiece. But there’s one problem: Calabria doesn’t really have a traditional timballo of its own.

So we decided to invent one.

In this video, we create our very own “Timballo Calabrese,” combining some of our favorite ingredients, flavors, and dishes from Calabria into one ambitious pasta creation. We had no idea if it would actually work, but if you’re going to invent an Italian recipe, you might as well go all in.

  1. Blessings to your growing family.
You two and your baby daughter are in my thoughts. ❤️🩷❤

  2. Why would you decide to stay in Italy when having a baby when you have a place in the US with the best medical care in the world?

  3. Congratulations and safe arrival for your baby and Eva a safe delivery and recovery 🙏🏻. I will be in Cosenza in a few weeks visiting family and will be praying for you close by 😂

  4. Eva, you look amazing. Harper, you’re the best man Eva could ask for. Blessed be and merry meet.

  5. It looks so good. I’m gonna have to try it some special Sunday for dinner. My family is from Calabria. Victoria Barbaritano was my grandma, came over through Ellis Island.

  6. You two cook so well together. There is so much love in everything you cook, it's going to come out great. "Buon Appatito"! 💕 Good luck, now go and have a baby.

  7. This reminds me of film Big Night, Stanley Tucci Old, Movie; Primo & Secondo…they make a timballo di pasta if not mistaken. BTW Eva you look fabulous nice to see you well in your baby bump❤Auguri 🎉

  8. Great video as always. If you ever come to Malta, you'll be surprised to know that timpana (which is essentially a Maltese version if timballo) is still quite popular, so much so that there is a street food version that is usually sold in small shops selling other local street foods such as pastizzi (we call these shops pastizzeriji). I think you would enjoy what Malta has to offer food wise. And big good luck for the upcoming birth of your daughter ❤
