Even after living in Naples for more than a decade, one of my dining companions had never experienced La Pescheria on Fifth Avenue South. I could hardly believe it. Established in 2019, this charming seafood restaurant has long been one of my favorite places to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine, and every visit brings me back to the years I spent living in Italy.

That is exactly why I wanted to feature this hidden gem for anyone who has yet to discover it.
The name La Pescheria translates to “the fish market,” a tradition deeply rooted throughout Italy. There, neighborhood seafood markets often double as restaurants, where the day’s freshest catch is beautifully displayed on ice before guests select exactly what they would like to enjoy. It is an experience that feels wonderfully personal, and one that owners Francesca and the Neri family have recreated with remarkable authenticity in the heart of Naples.
Rather than ordering from a traditional seafood menu, guests are invited to choose their fish or shellfish and decide how they would like it prepared. Whether simply grilled, baked in a delicate sea salt crust, or slowly stewed with potatoes, black olives, and sweet cherry tomatoes, every dish celebrates the natural flavors of the sea. There is no heavy butter or cream to mask the ingredients. Everything is prepared to order, encouraging guests to slow down, savor each course, and embrace the relaxed rhythm of Italian dining. As a finishing touch, the fish is expertly deboned tableside.
While many of us simply call it seafood, Italians affectionately refer to it as frutta di mare, or fruits of the sea. That philosophy shines throughout the menu, which features specialties rarely found elsewhere. Highlights include tender branzino meatballs served in marinara sauce, pillowy gnocchi paired with Sicilian red prawns, and elegant platters of crudo featuring delicate slices of raw fish finished with breadcrumbs and fragrant extra virgin olive oil.
Executive Chef Andrea Neri works alongside his talented team to create dishes that honor regional Italian traditions while introducing diners to flavors they may never have experienced before. It is a refreshing reminder that authentic Italian cuisine extends far beyond pasta and pizza.
For those longing for a true taste of coastal Italy without leaving Southwest Florida, La Pescheria continues to deliver one of the area’s most memorable and genuinely Italian dining experiences.
