The Raw Deal {David Volz}
Italian culture and fun came to Margate.
Doc Reno’s South Florida Italian Fest offered the community a variety of food trucks, bands playing classical rock and party music, and vendor booths featuring gourmet desserts and craft items. The Best Pizza Heaven won the best Italian dish contest.
A free event on August 1, the Italian Fest focused on family fun and children, and their parents danced in front of the bands. Family and friend groups ate dinners purchased from the food trucks, and there was a silent auction for celebrity memorabilia.
The festival raised money for the My Family Matters Foundation, which provides financial assistance to families with children fighting cancer. Doc Reno thanked people for coming and said all the money raised would go to the foundation.
Reno added that he faced his own battle with cancer and understands the struggles families face while caring for sick children.
The foundation helps families pay for housing, transportation, and other expenses so they can stay by their child’s side, according to its website.
“All the bands were dedicated to helping My Family Matters Foundation,” said Lori Meyers-Gagnon, a foundation board member.

Jade Tasse was one of the lead singers and loved the chance to perform.
As the lead singer for the band Sippin Fire, Tasse and her father, Reggie Fecteau, performed at the South Florida Italian Fest.
“I have a lot of passion for music, and I have been singing since I was a young child. We perform classic rock to disco, and music is my life,” said Tasse, of Tamarac.
Feckteau plays the bass guitar and has performed around the country. “I love music and worked to develop as a musician through years of practice. It is good to perform classic rock.”
Daybreak, a band made up of younger musicians who are alumni of the Coral Springs School of Rock, performed. Malia Smith, of Parkland, said she enjoyed performing in a band of musicians she knows.
The Raw Deal band gave its first performance with a new lineup of musicians. “It was great, and I loved performing tonight,” said Marc Egort, a bass player.
ReaXtion was the final band to perform, and DJ Taerock from Margate entertained in the food truck area.
The next one is Bacon Beer & BBQ on Sunday, September 6, from noon to 5:00 p.m.
