An Italian wine bar promising a “slice of Sicily” is set to open its doors later this year.
Veeno, a new addition to Northallerton’s growing food and drink scene, will open this September at the redeveloped Treadmills site—the town’s former prison now transformed into a hub for retail and leisure.
The bar will serve wines from the family vineyard of Veeno founder Nino Caruso in Marsala, Sicily, along with sharing platters of cured meats and cheeses, fresh pasta, pizza, and cocktails.
Chris Fernandes, the owner and operator who purchased the franchise from Mr Caruso, said: “I’m thrilled to be bringing Veeno to Northallerton.
“Treadmills is an outstanding development, and we’re proud to be part of what is becoming a fantastic destination for the town.
“Northallerton has such a strong sense of community, with people who genuinely appreciate great food, drink and hospitality.
“We believe Veeno will be a fantastic addition to the town and we’re looking forward to welcoming guests through the doors this September.”
Veeno will create around 15 jobs and offer immersive dining experiences alongside its menu.
These include A Trip to Sicily, which pairs five wines from the Caruso & Minini vineyard with a sharing board and ends with sweet wine and homemade tiramisu.
The wine bar embraces the Italian tradition of aperitivo—relaxing over food and drink with friends.
Other experiences include Quattro Rossi, Quattro Bianchi, and Veeno’s Italian Afternoon Tea.
Mr Caruso said: “From the very beginning, Veeno has been about sharing authentic Italian hospitality, exceptional Sicilian wines and creating places where people can come together over great food and drink.
“Chris shares those values completely, and we know he’ll create something truly special in Northallerton.”
Branded hoardings are now up around the site, inviting people to sign up for launch updates and a chance to win a trip to Sicily.
