Antonio Galloni just called it one of the most complicated vintages in 25 years. Searing heat and drought created widely inconsistent wines. While there are a few gems, you can no longer buy Barolo safely based on the label alone. The producer is everything.
While the amateur market chases the new releases, the smart move is to drink the proven, older vintages that have already earned their crown.
