There’s nothing quite like my Mom’s Italian Sunday Gravy recipe simmering away in the kitchen. This is the sauce I grew up with—it still brings everyone to the table and keeps them there just a little longer.
What I love most about this recipe is how simple it is. Good tomatoes, plenty of garlic, fresh parsley, and tender cuts of sausage and ribs that slow-cook into the sauce. Over the course of several hours, everything melts together into a rich, deeply flavored “gravy” that tastes like it’s been passed down for generations—because it has!
You can make this in a heavy pot on the stove if you like, but prefer using my slow cooker. It gives you all the flavor without having to stir throughout the day.
