Ingredients

400g spaghetti or linguine
1 tin sardines in olive oil
4โ€“5 anchovy fillets
4 cloves garlic, sliced
1 small shallot, diced
1/2 cup black olives
2 tbsp capers
1/2 tsp chili flakes
Extra virgin olive oil
Fresh parsley or basil
Salt & pepper
Fresh lemon zest (optional)
Toasted breadcrumbs or Pecorino (optional)

Instructions

Cook pasta in salted water until al dente.

In a pan over medium heat, add olive oil, garlic, and shallots. Cook until softened.

Add anchovies and let them melt into the oil.

Add chili flakes, olives, capers, and sardines. Gently break apart the sardines.

Toss in pasta with a little pasta water until glossy and coated.

Finish with parsley, black pepper, lemon zest, and extra virgin olive oil.

Optional: top with toasted breadcrumbs or Pecorino cheese.
