For the Italian army in WWII, “Al Dente” was non-negotiable. Even with limited water supplies, reports show troops using it to boil pasta instead of drinking it!
While other soldiers struggled with dry biscuits, Italians were opening tins of red wine and enjoying Pasta e Fagioli with olive oil. Imagine the look on the enemy’s face seeing a full three-course meal in the middle of a war zone.
