Growing up, I remember my mom would make this decadent Italian Easter Pie, a Pizza Rustica, every year around Easter. She got her recipe from my great aunt, Zia Gaetana, and I have decided to use the recipe, though with a few personal ~Lia Noelle~ modifications. The pizza rustica holds a lot of tradition as for many people during the Lenten season, the 40 days leading up until Easter, a lot of them fast or give up on eating meat. Then to celebrate the end of Lent and the coming of Easter and to break the fast, they make this Italian Easter Pie which is loaded with so many delicious meats and cheeses. The Italian Easter Pie can be a bit dense but has a lot of flavor for the various meats such as prosciutto and salami and cheeses like provolone and mozzarella. Regardless of people observing Lent and fasting, this Pizza Rustica is still a wonderful treat to enjoy. My recipe will show you how to make an Italian Easter Pie!
