  1. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is what I buy in 5l bottles when I see my friend in the Piemonte mountains. Good table wine.
Other great Piemonte grapes: Barbera and Dolcetto, both great. Not as strong as southern wines, but balanced and slightly bubbly.
Otherwise from Puglia, Malvasia Nera is a nice one, it's what I buy for my friend when I want something special and sweeter.

  2. Ah well, I can agree with most things, except 3: putting Primitivo and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo over Chianti and saying that Prosecco can be as good as Champagne – this one hurts like breaking spaghetti before boiling;)

  3. Hey Vincenzo, have you heard of Garum? It’s the Roman fish sauce and was very popular in ancient times. They still make it.

  4. My fave type of wine?…. Natural red grapes 😅

I don’t drink alcohol, so whole fruit red grapes is good enough for me 😅

  5. Please, never cook with a wine you wouldn't want to drink. Personally, I have become very fond of the (Primitivo) wines from Puglia. Most of them are very affordable and full of intense fruity and spicy flavour.

  6. Having a nice glass of Nero d'Avola while watching. Italy has almost 1000 different grapes, so it's impossible to cover them all.
I generally agree with you, but I think you are too harsh on Pinot Grigio. It can be a very good wine and it's my "can't go wrong" white wine.

  7. One of my favourite wine is Tignanello… 2019 I ordered a bottle at a restaurant in Florence was around €70-80…. Last year in Naples I saw Sole365 supermarket selling a 2021 bottle for €150 😅

  8. This is a hilariously dogshit take from someone who doesn’t know a lot about and hasn’t drunk enough wine. Probably shops at Dans. Wow. Just sad.

  9. My favorites are Brunello, Sagrantino di Montefalco, and Barolo (S Tier). A Tier would be the very best Chianti Reserva, Nero d'Avola. Don't even talk to me about Lambrusco or Prosecco.

  10. My favourites:

    Red – Brunello
    White – Roero Arneis
    Bubbles – Franciacorta

Franciacorta is amazing, best sparkling wine on the planet. Only for people in the know. Don't advertise it too much, Vincenzo 😜

  11. My favorite Italian red wine to pair with any (european style) food is Sangiovese. Nothing comes close, to a well-made, under $25 Sangiovese.

  12. Italy has so many grape varieties: aglianico, negroamaro, vermentino, greco di tufo and the list is endless. Grate value for money you get with Italian wines

  13. You missed a few- wine is my thing
Taurasi- S tier. Aglianico makes my favorite Italian reds, generally speaking
Aglianico de Vulture- A tier. One of the best value reds in my opinion. Baby Taurasi
    Barbera d’Alba- A+ tier
    Barbera d Asti. B+/A
Vino Nobile de Montepulciano- S tier. These, IMO, are Tuscany’s finest. I generally prefer them over Brunello
    Fiano- A tier
    Tocai Fruilano- A+
Langhe Nebbiolo/Ghemme- A tier. If you want something that gets you much of the way to Barolo and Barbaresco, but at a better price and with less aging time needed, these are your wines
    I could go on, but..| 😊

  14. I worked for 15 years in the export office a famous wine producer in Alba, how many beautiful memories, I think I've sent billions of liters of wine abroad, from USA to Canada, to Australia, you name it! Oh, and btw, my favourite is a niche wine from Langhe, a red called Albarossa, but also a Ruchè, highly recomand! ❤

  15. Good day! Interesting ranking. I tend to buy Chianti classico often. It has become my “go-to” red wine in many cases because it's very versatile when it comes to food pairings. Also, I totally agree with you on Franciacorta : delicious & way cheaper than Champagne. On that note, cheers! 🍾🥂

  16. I would love to know where you would rank my favourite Vincenzo. Gavi di Gavi
Glad another, Franciacorta, was included and is S tier

  17. I generally agree, but of course there is lots of variation within each appellation. I would rank top Brunellos as an S tier however, I find it more elegant and less overwhelming than Ripasso and Amarone, but that's of course personal taste. In the same vein, most supertuscans, like Tignanello, Sassicaia, Ornellaia to name a few, would belong to the S tier for me. Fun fact, Primitivo and Zinfandel are genetically identical grapes.

  18. So glad you added Montepulciano d'abruzzo! so under appreciated and great value but you should also have Langhe Nebbiolo.

  19. This ranking is the biggest bullshit and worst test you have ever made. It's impossible to pick 10 of 30.000 wines and rank them.

  20. Montepulciano d’abruzzo is my favorite (so far). Good weekday red wine. I love Brunello on special occasions. I still need to try Barolo. I am sure my Italian friends right now are saying “What are you waiting for?!”

  21. No, no, no, no, no. Pinot Grigio can be a very sophisticated wine. Any of the skin contact ones have complexity and acid and don’t taste in any way like water with alcohol added. Have a Vie de Romans Dessimis, which is a blush pink colour and a superbly made Pinot Grigio, and judge again. It’s an excellent wine. This is a very simplistic analysis.

  22. I used to buy that Valpolicella (the exact same one you showed us) every other week, it was a recommendation from an Italian former work mate of mine, I loved it the first time I tried it and never stopped buying it. Nowadays I have a bit of trouble finding it in Budapest. Now, the question needs to be asked 😅 Pecorino wine, does it pair well with Pecorino cheese? 😂 probably it has absolutely nothing to do with it, but I had to ask. Thanks!

  23. Actually some cheap wines have better taste than expensive wines even though they use authentic ingredients, chef. And also, expensive wines are not worth the money.

  24. …Greco di Tufo – triple S tier? I think so. One of the overlooked world's greatest whites.

  25. In my opinion, saying that Pinot Grigio is "water with alcohol" is a very superficial statement. There are exceptional producers who make incredible Pinot Grigios in Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia: Livio Felluga, Jermann. Alois Lageder etc. Each wine has his own unique characteristic. There are wines well made and wine poorly made.

  26. Hi Vicenzo! In my humble opinion, you forgot at least 3 important wines. Barbaresco, if Barolo is the king, Barbaresco is the prince! And from Tuscany, Tignanello and Sassicaia should never be forgotten.

  27. Vincenzo fantastico! Arianna Occhipinti is making some terrific wines in Sicily. I discovered Pecorino last summer and it’s my go-to Italian vino blanco. Thanks for another great review.

  28. Pecorino is fabulous with any Italian seafood or fish dishes. You may not be pushing brand-specific bottles, but Tara Pecorino is one my favorite wines all around. Verdicchio is also a great Marche option for this, but Pecorino is a little less acidic. Personally I enjoy the acidity especially with seafood, but my wife prefers the more mild option for a white wine.

  29. Santa Cristina Toscana, the same bottle from a supermarket in a North Europen town 7€, while in an expensive restaurant in Florence 27€! Others, you can't go wrong with Primitivo Puglia, while all the wines from Sicily, such as Nero d'Avola, I find acidy due to its volcanic soil. Sorry, Sicilians, you just can't grow everything on your beautiful island! Abbracci 🤗 paesani! P.S. As for Prosecco, I share the same opinion about original Champagnes (I don't like nearby acidy Chablis too): a botty bubble will do. 😅
