In this video, I invite you to a unique vertical tasting of Barolo Riserva from Marchesi di Barolo — one of the leading producers in the Piedmont region. 🇮🇹
Together, we will trace how wine evolves with age by comparing the 1988, 2003, 2018, and 2021 vintages. 🍷
You will learn:
✅ How the climate and specific harvest year shape the wine’s character
✅ What transformations Nebbiolo undergoes during aging (color, aroma, taste, and structure)
✅ The key differences between young and mature Barolo
✅ Why Barolo is often called the “Italian Burgundy” and its incredible aging potential
Get ready to “taste time” – every bottle tells its own unique story! ⏳

Very timely subject for me, thank you! I was intrigued by your Barolo/Burgundy remark. Perhaps you might dig a little deeper into that comparison sometime?
Thank you so much for this video! I recently picked up two 2023 bottles to explore the grape/style/region. made the mistake of opening drinking one and found it really hard to drink! I’ll make sure to not crack my next bottle until after the 10 year mark.
exquisite
Finally someone serious talking about Barolo. Grazie Anya 🇮🇹
1988. You are lucky indeed. Thank you for the overview 😊
Always enjoy a well thought out learning experiance TY Such Class
Always enjoy your videos
Especially the 2021 Barolo vintage that i tasted so far had relatively "gentle" tannins and accessible fruit. Plenty to enjoy now while maintaining freshness for the next decades.
"I have never heard of this, it sounds great" I go online to our local superstore. The 2016 is US289. I guess I will live vicariously through the video. I could get a 2011 rivata barolo for US37 just to try the region. Anyone have an opinion?
Barolo is one of my favorites if not the favorite wine. To be honest, I prefer it younger than aged, and 2018 is a great vintage!
Very interesting, thank you Anya……….🍷😘
Thank you for doing what you do, it is a pleasure to learn from you.
As always, truly look forward to your podcast.
I especially love when you express yourself in Italian! 🍷
Great video. Love the format!
Anya, I’m so jealous!!! I’ve always wanted to try old Barolo, but my humble wine budget won’t allow it. Maybe one day.
Barolo is also a great case study of how being inflexible in the name of tradition actually hurts the wine. I admire those who were willing to take risks and innovate.
Cheers! 🍷
Signed up for the webinar. Don't tell my boss that what I'm intently focusing on that day will be a wine webinar though…
speculare, volare!
spectaculare curare! goes well with sole meuniere ,lightly smoked dill spriggs, truffle tartare and soused blonde.
Another fantastic video, Anya! Love the vertical tasting format…sounds like the 2003 vintage would be in my wheelhouse. On a side note, did those earrings feel heavy? 🤣
For the name “nebbiolo,” which comes from nebbia, it’s still unclear whether it refers to the region’s fog during harvest or to the “foggy” skin of the grapes. People who study naming conventions tend to lean toward the latter, as it would be quite uncommon to name a grape variety after an atmospheric phenomenon rather than its appearance.
How STUPID !!!! Barolo the next Burgundy???. Has there been a Burgund prior to Burgundy??? And what wikk come after Barolo became the next Burgundy? Will then Nappa be the next Burgundy?? Burgundy, Barolo, Mosel, Bordeaux, Chianti, Amarone, Rioja, etc. etc. All unique, all second to none with nothing to replace them…
Ciao,
In futuro, caricherai dei video sul vino Nero d'Avola?
