Today we’re making authentic Italian Bocconotti cookiesβ€”a traditional treat from Calabria and Abruzzo. These bite-sized pastries are filled with a rich chocolate and almond mixture, and they’re perfect for holidays or family gatherings. Let’s get started!

Ingredients:

Pastry Dough
β€’ 1 & 1/2 cups pastry flour
β€’ 1/3 cup sugar
β€’ 1 egg
β€’ 2 egg yolks
β€’ 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
β€’ Zest of 1 lemon
β€’1/2 cup cold butter, cubed

Chocolate Almond Filling
β€’ 1 cup roasted almonds, crushed into tiny pieces
β€’ 1/4 cup granulated sugar
β€’ 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
β€’ 2 ounces (60 g) dark chocolate, coarsely chopped
β€’ 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
β€’ 2 egg whites
β€’ 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

You will need small mini tart molds (tinned steel) about 1Β½ inches wide.

Optional: Powdered or icing sugar for dusting.
