Grandma’s Meatballs with soursweet sauce

Ingredients for 4-5 people:

– 500 gr beef minced meat
– 150 gr bread
– 2 eggs
– parsley
– salt & pepper
– water
– 1/2 glass white vinegar
– 2 spoons sugar (approx.)
– sunflower seed oil
– 1-2 white onions

RECIPE MEATBALLS:

Step 1: soak all of the bread in water to cover it completely and leave it for about 15-20 minutes, then squeeze it and mash it with your hands until it becomes very fine;

Step 2: mix the remaining bread and the beef mince in a bowl and one egg, then add a second egg depending on the mixture consistency (in case it gets too dry) and season with salt and black pepper;

Step 3: cut finely some parsley leaves (to taste) and add them to the mixture;

Step 4: when the mixture stops sticking to the hands, create little meatballs and fry them in sunflower seed oil until they are cooked through and brownish outside; after frying, let them release the excess oil on a napkin;

Step 5: meanwhile, chop one or two onions finely and fry them in olive oil in a non-stick pan until they get brown, then fill one glass with half white vinegar and half water and pour it into the pan, then add sugar to taste (in our recipe, it is 2 spoons of sugar) and mix all togheter to create a sauce (more on the liquid side);

Step 6: soak the meatballs into the soursweet sauce for at least 15 minutes before serving, so they can absorb all the flavour and soften. Finally, serve pouring on them the remaining sauce and onions on top.
