On this episode of Pro Moves, host Adam Richman is eating his way through the pizza capital of the world. No, not New York City. Not Italy. But the beautiful Elmy City of New Haven, Connecticut. Real ones know that for nearly 100 years New Haven has been quietly churning out some of the best pizza on the planet, pioneering an ultra crispy, super crunchy, coal-fired take on the Neapolitan pie. Having gone to college in New Haven, Adam is well acquainted with the city’s slice game, but today he’s on a mission to sample some of the unsung heroes of the New Haven pizza scene. Joined by pizza scholar Scott Wiener, Adam eats his way through the menu at West Haven institution Zuppardi’s, before heading to the legendary Modern Apizza on State Street. Finally, Adam ends his tour at the Little Rendezvousโ€”a legendary pizzeria in Meriden cooking pies in a 137-year-old oven.

  1. Its too bad you guys have a narc as a president. I would love to come and try all of these. But unfortunately nope.

  2. I have been going to Little Rendezvous since I was around 7. There sauce with grated cheese is my all time favorite. Also the place really has not changed much since I can remember. The one different was a pinball machine in the hallway down to the back where they used to pile up the apizza boxes. Wish they would put one back just so I could come pick up early and play a game like the old days. I am 58 years old so I've been going there for over 50 years that I can remember maybe a few more. The owner is a good guy and lets his pizza speak for him. Everyone should try it one time. Then leave it for us locals. Lol

  3. These pretentious gurus are half baked. I would rather hear the opinions of old people about the 60โ€™d rather than people born in the late 80โ€™s and 90โ€™s talking about the past and acting like they know the history without having been there.

  4. Well Adam.. Nice to see you again on YT ..after all of these years of doing food shows. Really nice surprise to see you pop up!
So… I live not too far from both areas of Both north of Manhattan and the surrounding areas.. New Haven CT has the talented Pizza places, but NYS ..has the water too! I guess it depends on thick or thin crusts are your preferences. I've found that a lotta the CT pizza places, tend to do a thin thin crispy slice; sometimes they actually will send it out burnt on the edges. (best to tell them when your ordering-how you want that pie.. burnt or not) NY Pizza ..Specifically north of the city varies depending on the flour and yeast and how long is their proofing of their dough, All of this as you all know is so important when dealing with the simplest of ingredients. I like Frank Pepe's (Danbury CT) Fresh Tomato Pie but I am a huge fan of Mike and Joe's (Putnam County NY) Regular w/ Shrooms and cheese.

  5. if you missed Stamford, CT — Colony Grill and RIko's….(Riko's was spun off of Colony using the same style. A chef left to make his own chain that provided better customer service and such, imo its the same though some purists may say its not as good).

It's not quite New Haven style, it's like a bar pizza mixed with New Haven. I think one slice review has done it, if you want a quick video on it.

  6. Jesus Christ loves you and died for your sins! Repent and seek Jesus, Read & Pray! Prophecy is unravelling! The Euphrates river is drying up, rivers.and seas turning to blood, knowledge is increasing, decrease in love and morals, they're trying to change our dna! We are in the last days! Get ready Christ is coming soon! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

  7. i love these so much bc you can see adam is genuinely having fun doing this. keep it up!!!

  8. way to go Adam , Zups is great Modern is better than any ah-beetz on Wooster Street , Next time come up to Middletown and hit up Jerry's, get a meatball and peperoni combo , its top of the pyramid , also they do an amazing white clam .

  9. As a former westie, im so grateful to the Zuppardi family for staying open during the lockdown. It gave us a break from the daily chaos and brought us together over food we all loved. It also saved the little sanity we had left. Thank you for continuing to serve the community. We miss you.

  10. This series is a perfect example of what's achievable on this platform. Adam just elevates everything he's in ๐Ÿ‘Œ

  11. Sallyโ€™s is my favorite pizza though have not tried Zuppardis or little rendezvous. No excuse as Iโ€™m 20 mins from Meriden and 40 from West Haven so it will have to happen.
