It’s my first time making gnocchi and after 1 day outside the fridge, the dough developed these black spots and lost its yellow color, the smell is just as fresh pasta. I’m pregnant and I’m afraid of eating it now. Is it safe?

The recipe contains: all proposes flour; potato; an egg; salt. Thank you.

My guess would be the potato oxidized. Which is fine, just makes it look bad.

Starchy foods can turn deadly if left out for too long..not sure a day would be enough, I certainly eat cooked pasta that’s been out overnight.. but You’re pregnant… Don’t take risks. The black just means it’s oxidized which isn’t dangerous but I would bin it, and be more careful to refrigerate things in future now you’re pregnant

The difference between zero risk and potentially catastrophic risk (however remote), is spending 3 dollars and making new pasta.
Seems like a no brainer.

In the future, always refrigerate or cook right away. It’s never a smart idea to keep partially cooked food at room temp for hours at a tome

When in doubt, throw it out

Thank you all for the advice! I will toss it out as you recommend. I guess I trusted winter so I didn’t refrigerate right away, but now it won’t happen again 🙂

Just to be clear, this was left out at room temp for a whole day? Why?
If so, throw it away. Egg spoils very fast at room temp and cooked starches can be dangerous when left out like this. In the future, freeze or cook immediately.
ILL-LILL
pasta that’s been left at room temp can and will kill you.

Looks like your potatoe browned is all from being let out to exposed air

Not sure why you left it outside of the fridge but it needs to be refrigerated, frozen or cooked within a reasonable amount of time.. say 1 hour or making??
The only pasta that is safe to dry and keep at room temperature is pasta made with semolina flour and water only. No egg.
Egg doesn’t do well at room temperature even when dry. All pasta made with egg needs to be refrigerated or frozen for a long term.

What recipe did you use, very curious, care to share?

OP, no! Why did you leave it out?

Dump them. Freeze after making. Then use as needed, no need to thaw them out.
Btw, congrats on the baby soon to be!

I wouldn’t have risked it pregnant

I think it stay out for up to 5 hours then cook or freeze.

Pitch it! You can’t leave raw food out of the fridge all day.
Immediate_Ideal8990
You….. you left it out for…. a whole day 🤥
Legitimate-Map-1922
I would throw them away but in the future after your pasta is rolled just freeze it. I worked in multiple restaurants and was responsible for rolling pasta. It always gets frozen.
