My classic Italian tiramisu recipe has lightly sweet mascarpone filling layered with ladyfingers soaked with a spiked espresso mixture and topped with a dusting of cocoa powder. It’s practically perfect and totally delicious!

I love tiramisu because it has all the best things in one package: coffee, rum or brandy, a super creamy but not too sweet custard and just a little chocolate! It’s one of the FIRST recipes I made as a teenage baker and has remained a favorite ever since.

  1. I saw your cookbook in Barnes and Noble and said Hey! I know this guy. Lol making this today. No alcohol. ❤

  2. I don't know if it's been said before but you can replace the cream with egg whites. You can also use the double boiler to heat the egg whites and make them safe then whip them up to stiff peaks. It results in a lighter tiramisu that I personally prefer

  3. Just made a half recipe. Loved your video, which was so instructive. Used the traditional Marsala instead of Dark Rum. It’s setting up in the fridge right now. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

  4. Thanks to you my wife’s family wants me to make tirimisu this Christmas, the first batch I made was a huge hit.

  5. I don't like when people put cream instead the egg whites in the tiramisu – they so fake it (american thing?). And if they put alkohol it it – I consider them victims of fashion. I believe it's still edible, but not the real one.

  6. Hey John- I never made Tiramisu before and I used your recipe and WOW! So creamy and perfect. I stumbled upon your channel through a search and so glad I did. Thanks !!

  7. The correct pronunciation is "za-bye-oni" in Italian the g and l in zabiglioni aren't pronounced they're more of an accentuation like bignet.

  8. This was fucking delicious! Also it was easy to make. Only one thing is I would only dip the bottom lady fingers for one sec. Because if you don't you'll get nice top and soggy bottom. But absolutely amazing recipe! And I'm making the gingerbread cake for Christmas.

  9. argh, so disappointing, when you said "let me know if you want me to make lady fingers" I was like "oh please god" – I love tiramisu, but haven't had in ages, cause I can not eat gluten (found out at like 30, but it really should have been known since childhood, oh well) and the only lady fingers I can find are with gluten… and recipe for gluten free cakes looks, um, more like "trucker fingers" than lady fingers. I'm sure you'd have advice or two

  10. Great recipe. Although I would suggest sprinkling the cocoa powder just before serving. If your cocoa powder is not great, it might turn bitter when you refrigerate it. Rather add grated chocolate before refrigeration, and dusting a cocoa powder after.

  11. What an amazing recipe with just the right amount of sweetness! My whole family absolutely loved this dessert…thanking you so much for sharing…sending you hugs 💖

  12. The one that you made and the one that you showed at the end are 2 different tiramisu. You placed ladyfinger vertically on both laters, wheras in the final product one layer has them vertical and other horizontal. I dont understand why do you need to cheat. Just be honest.

  13. Why am I watching while I'm hungry??!! 🤤 I LOVE tiramisu I just try this! ❤️

  14. Why dont you use the eggs white? Usually we make italyan meringue with them and we incorporate them just before the whipped cream
