“Dal Dhokli”is a traditional dish of Guajarati cuisine generally prepared with dals (lentils) and wheat flour as base ingredients. It has soft textured dhokli submerged in semi thick dal like lentil gravy and has mild sweet and spicy taste of aromatic spices and crunchy peanuts.

Apart from being easy to prepare, healthy and stomach filling, this dal dhokli is capable of carrying entire meal on its own, which means that it can be served all by itself and one wouldn’t care for anything in accompaniment.

We are going to make “DAL-Dhokli” with an ITALIAN twist , by making tortellini shaped dhoklis.

Cooking Time – 20 min
Serves – 4

✓Ingredients –
•Dhokli Dough
Whole wheat flour -1 cup
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Red chilli powder -1/2 tsp
Dhaniya powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt – 1/2 tsp
Refined oil – 1 tsp
Warm water to knead the dough

•Dhokli Filling
Crumbled paneer -1/2 cup
Salt – 1/2 tsp
Red chilli Powder – 1/2 tsp
Black pepper Powder – 1/2 tsp
Roasted cumin Powder – 1/2 tsp
Chopped coriander – 1/4 cup (or spring onions)

•Dal
For pressure cooking
Toor dal (washed and soaked) -1/2 cup
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt – 1 tsp
Raw peanuts – 1 tbsp
Chopped tomato – 1 (medium)

Tadka
Ghee / Oil – 2 tbsp
Asafoetida (hing) – 1/4 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – 6-7
Chopped ginger green chilli – 2 tbsp
Red chilli powder- 2 tsp
Dhaniya powder – 2 tsp
Jaggery – 2 tbsp
Lemon juice – 1 (medium)

Coriander to garnish
