Caprese salad is a simple italian salad, made of sliced fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and green basil, seasoned with salt, oregano and olive oil. It was made to resemble the colors of the Italian flag: green, white and red. In Italy, it is usually served as a starter (antipasto), but it can be a light complete meal, like a lunch or a dinner, ready in no time. A quick and a pretty light main dish made just with simple fresh ingredients.
This recipe makes about 2 servings.
INGREDIENTS
2 large tomatoes – sliced thick
16 oz fresh mozzarella cheese – sliced thick
1 tsp salt
1 tsp oregano
3 tbs extra virgin olive oil
STEPS
1 – Alternate tomato and mozzarella slices on a platter.
2 – Season with salt and oregano. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and, if you like, decorate with fresh basil leaves. Serve immediately.
