Now, who doesn’t love pizza? Ever since pizza was brought to the United States with Italian immigrants in the late nineteenth century, it has been a huge success. The country’s first pizzeria, Lombardi’s, opened in 1905 in New York. Following World War II, veterans returning from the Italian Campaign, who was introduced to Italy’s native cuisine, proved a ready market for pizza in particular. This is probably when pizza was made from actual food. I am sure Lombardi’s never had a lab in their restaurant where they created ingredients that mimicked food.
