La Calcinara wines began in 1997 in the Calcinara district of Candia, which is in the Marche wine region of Italy, on the central eastern coast. A local viticulture expert identified the site with great potential for growing Montepulciano grapes, but despite being first planted in 1999, the first wines were not made until 2005… so a real passion project! In the meantime, the vine plantings increased, until they had nearly 9 hectares, all managed organically. Fruit, flowers and olives were also planted.
La Calcinara is a genuine hands on family business: from the pruning of the vines to the grape harvesting in small boxes, to the aging of the wines in oak barrels, to the eventual bottling and release of the wine.
The team comprises of brother and sister, Paolo and Eleanor, who under the guidance of their father are bringing their dreams to life to make some of the best wines of the region!
