This was the best trip of our lives! We spent 6 days in Italy and 9 days in Greece

The Amalfi Coast was our favorite portion of the trip. Positano is a very charming little town. Be prepared to walk A LOT. Nearly every restaurant has amazing food. Our favorite meal in Positano was definitely at LA TAGLIATA – make reservations and they will come pick you up and drop you off from your hotel. It’s affordable and family style meal with endless local wine 🙂
Our hotel in Positano was perfect location, with a balcony and reasonable price. The owner was the sweetest man who provided great hospitality and local tips. Hotel: Casa Albertina
Ravello was the most beautiful town on the Amalfi Coast. Panoramic views and beautiful gardens (villas). Villa Cimbrone was the highlight in Ravello, followed by dinner (reservations and dress code required) located in the garden, hidden! Restaurant: Il Flauto di Pan. It is a 7 course meal and a Michelin star establishment. This was my wife’s favorite meal of our entire Honeymoon.
Must do Amalfi Coast:
– Hike the Path of the Gods along the Amalfi Coast. It is about 6-8 miles long, depending if you walk all the way back to Positano or take a taxi for the last portion on the road.
– Take a private boat tour to Capri – was one of the highlights of our trip for sure!
– Farm Tour Experience – This was SO FUN. Tour a lemon farm, cattle ranch and a local pizza restaurant. So much Limoncello, wine and pizza. It was a blast and the hosts are great. We booked on Booking.com, but you can likely book from your hotel as well.
Greece:
– I wouldn’t recommend spending more than 1-2 days in Athens. It was underwhelming
– Naxos – Beautiful, large island. It has less tourist traffic than Mykonos and Santorini, has the most beautiful beaches and equally good sunsets
Hotel Recommendation: Nissaki Beach Hotel
– Santorini was as advertised. Sunsets were fantastic. Very romantic. I would recommend splurging on a hotel, because there isn’t a ton to do on the island itself and you’ll want to spend more time relaxing in your plunge pool soaking in the view 🙂
Hotel Recommendation: Perivolas Hotel in Oia
Must do in Santorini:
– Catamaran boat trip
– Sunset Wine tour – they take you to a few local Santorini wineries and enjoy an amazing sunset while eating local dinner
Ultimately, if we planned this trip again, we would have spent more time along the Amalfi Coast and less time in Greece. We would have likely done 9 days in Italy, skipped Athens, and have split 6 days between Mykonos, Naxos and Santorini. Santorini was breathtaking, but I would recommend staying there 3-4 nights MAX if you want to visit other Greek islands as well.
