Here are seven new restaurants that Connecticut diners can enjoy in September, including the return of a legendary Hartford eatery after a six-year absence, the first Connecticut locations of two New York burger joints and Connecticut’s first seafood salumeria.

Fans of “old school” juicy smash burgers may get their fix at the recently opened New York’s 7th Street Burger, the first one in the state.

Known for its smash cheese burgers, Impossible burgers and crispy fries, the chain opened at the former Avocado location in downtown New Haven, The space was previously home to the store Ten Thousand Villages for 15 years. Smash burgers are known for their lacy, caramelized edges and tender, juicy center.
A location was announced earlier for Stamford in the same plaza as ShopRite on West Main Street, but the New Haven restaurant is the first location for the New York-based chain in Connecticut, CT Insider reported. – Susan Braden

Chef Giuseppe Castellano, who owns Gallo Ristorante and Lantern Bar & Gastropub both in Ridgefield, has brought crudo and Connecticut’s first seafood salumeria to his new eatery, Bar TerraMare in Norwalk.

“TerraMare represents the evolution of my cooking,” Castellano said in a news release. “South Norwalk has incredible energy and an appreciation for great food, so I wanted to create a restaurant unlike anything else in the area.”
The eatery’s menu offers “pristine seafood,” premium meats, handcrafted pastas, seasonal and authentic Italian ingredients, the release stated. – Susan Braden.

Tea lovers in West Hartford may find joy at the new Bliss Matcha Tea and Beyond, which offers “ceremonial grade” matcha in a wide assortment of drinks – from “dirty matcha” to “Banana Pudding Matcha Latte.”

The tea shop offers a wide range matcha beverages including frappes, tea-based tropical drinks and lattes, according to its Facebook page.
For those who are not matcha fans there are coffee drinks, fruity refreshers, slushies made with fruit and crystal boba and cheese cloud lattes in a section called “no matcha for me today” on the website’s online menu.
The West Hartford location is a sister café to Bliss Matcha Tea and Beyond at 98 Olive St. in New Haven. – Susan Braden

Carbone’s Ristorante
After a six-year absence, Carbone’s Ristorante is making its grand return to Hartford next month.
A legacy restaurant in the Hartford area since 1938, the fourth-generation of the family will open the doors on Sept. 1 to the 11,000-square-foot location that can accommodate 275 diners in addition to a lounge, banquet space and private dining areas. Formerly located on Franklin Avenue, Carbone’s Ristorante is taking over the former home of Apple Cinemas, which closed in 2023.

Plans first were announced for Carbone’s Ristorante to move into the former Apple Cinemas location in 2023. At the time, the restaurant had been closed in light of the COVID pandemic, with its sister restaurants Carbone’s Kitchen in Bloomfield and Carbone’s Prime in Rocky Hill still in operation.
Those looking for the flamboyant tableside Caesar salad preparations, Italian cuisine staples and flambéed desserts were assured the offerings will be making a return when Carbone’s Ristorante opens in September. – Andrew DaRosa
Farmers Tavern
From Hudson Valley duck to Maine lobster, Farmers Tavern is bringing a wide-ranging, farm-to-table menu to Southbury.

The new restaurant describes its food as “fresh from local hands to your table” on its website. Its menu highlights the sources of several ingredients, including exotic mushrooms from Stewart’s Farm, Hudson Valley duck, Georges Bank sea scallops, Faroe Island salmon and Maine lobster.
Entrees include prime New York strip, pork chop, calf’s liver, duck breast, steak and chips, pan-seared scallops, salmon, branzino, and fish and chips, along with seafood trenette and campanelle pasta. The menu also features salads, a lobster roll, cheeseburgers, a lamb burger, and mushroom and short rib flatbreads. – Joseph Tucci

Flat Out Burger launched in Brooklyn, N.Y. just over a year ago and recently expanded with a second location in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, with another planned in Brooklyn, plus the Fairfield location, totaling four eateries, according to its website.
The eatery uses 100% grass-fed Pat LaFrieda beef, fresh-baked brioche buns, hand-cut fries, house-made sauces, according to the release. They also offer a “Flat Out Veggie” burger made with a Beyond patty, according to the website. – Susan Braden

Diners who are always on the look-out for their next authentic Italian experience may try the recently opened Via Posa restaurant in Fairfield, which serves house made cornettos, bomboloni, pizza, pasta and paninis.

Posa Ristorante and Vineria in Ridgefield, whose menu is “rooted in the traditional cuisine of Positano,” opened Via Posa, it announced on its Instagram page. The parent restaurant offers “Italian fine dining,” it says on its website, as well as casual fare from its pizza bar and charcuterie boards on the patio. – Susan Braden
