I have been on an Italian wine kick all month, and this red blend from the Veneto region was a genuinely pleasant surprise.
This is the Hora Sexta red blend — a combination of Cabernet Franc and Carmenere from the Veneto, the same region that gives us Prosecco. This bottle was gifted to me by Fly Wines, a wine company dedicated to making wine more inclusive, modern, and discovery-driven. I used my Coravin to taste it so I can revisit it over time and see how it evolves, more on that in a future video.
On the nose: ripe and juicy, with blueberry, dark cherry, and blackberry leading the way. There is a nice anise and peppery spice running through it, along with an earthy floral quality — think violet and fresh potting soil.
On the palate: surprisingly light for a Cabernet blend. The tannins are mild and not heavily textured, which makes this an excellent option for people who do not typically gravitate toward bold red wines. The acidity is bright, refreshing, and vibrant. On the third sip the heat becomes more noticeable, but the mature fruit flavors balance it out and give the wine a subtle sweetness without any residual sugar.
Perfect for a spring afternoon or summer evening.
First tasting. Solid 8 out of 10.
