I use this wine key: Forge de Laguiole Ebony
The 100 Point Scoring System (from www.robertparker.com):
96-100: An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume.
90 – 95: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.
80 – 89: A barely above average to very good wine displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as character with no noticeable flaws.
70 – 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine.
60 – 69: A below-average wine containing noticeable deficiencies, such as excessive acidity and/or tannin, an absence of flavor or possibly dirty aromas or flavors.
50 – 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable.
The best of the best, simply perfect, pure perfection
That’s how wines are described that receive a 100-point score from one of the leading critics. When the 100-point scale was introduced by Robert Parker roughly 50 years ago, scoring wine was still frowned upon.
However, scores had an impact on demand, and when the first wines received a perfect 100-point score, it moved markets, wines sold out quickly, and cult wines became cult wines. Today, I am tasting 5 wines that received a perfect 100-point score from one or several of the main critics to show you what perfection really looks like.
Robert Parker once said that a 100-point wine is based 90% on the tasting quality of the wine and 10% on pure emotion.
So while many people believe that wine rating follows a strict process, it also involves emotion, personal preference, and subjective taste. Let’s therefore see whether I agree with the 100-point ratings of some of the major critics.

First! 😂
have to admit i skipped to the cdp cos i have a few bottles of this
Robert 'The highest bidder wins' Parker.
100 points it's guarantee of wine being at leas 95, more likely 97-98. Obtaining a perfect 100 it's subjectively! 😊
Had the same Riesling x James Suckling 100P experience with Künstler‘s Hochheimer Hölle 2023 (bought for about €40 btw), tho I fear I actually didn‘t give it enough air. Was a good wine, but I felt quite disappointed…
I had a Markus Huber Grüner Veltiner 2024 yesterday, which was also rated 100 by JS. I would rate it only 96. But for 49 Euros it is really great value!
0:14 I hope our dear friends JS is not part of those leading critics lol. Mr 100 pts for you, and for you, and for you!
Edit wine 1: and heeeere we go
11:39 omg infanticide. How can you open a 2023 Montrose now is it even drinkable ? 😂
Well, as others said, I also had that with a JS 100 rated wine; Domaine Anita 2021 Moulin a Vent Coeur de Vigneronne. Gamay from the Beaujolais. Really nice wine for the money (about €25-30), but in my view not close to 100, maybe 92-93.
Question for you; the 2023 Montrose is for sure a great wine, but shouldn't you at least give it a lot of air before drinking ? Wouldn't that have helped the wine and maybe give it some of the character you are looking for ? Obviously it is (too) young to drink already, although I must say that even in Bordeaux it looks like bottles become earlier drinkable, just like in Napa.
I have half a case of Mont Redon, 2016, and it is outstanding after one bottle – the second will be opened with friends in June.
Three years old is far too young to judge a classed growth claret, especially a St Estephe, imho. I still have some 2005 Bordeaux left and I am still drinking 2014, '15 and '16.
Never drunk a perfect wine, although a Leflaive Pucelles from, I think, 1992, came very close. Biggest disappointment: Lafite from an off year ('73 from memory).
I only remember you giving 100 points to a Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva 2004. Are there any other wines you gave a prefect score?
I agree with others, up to 96-98 or so can be fairly objective but, after that, it's all subjective. So, there are only 98+ wines. In my own wine rating experience, I've only rated bottles as high as 95 (despite higher scores from critics). All the wines in my cellar that were rated 100 are Bordeaux. I haven't had any of them yet, but suspect that I'll find few to be "perfect"…whatever that is. And really, a 95 point wine that is reasonably priced ($50-100) is what most people seek.
I particularly enjoyed the idea of the colour of pome grenade! I knew what you meant but the mispronounciation was excellent and hiliarous.
I have tasted 2 of the wines on the list in the past but I would definitely like to try the Reisling.
glad to see most of these “100 point” wines were wild ferments. cultured yeasts are so boring!
as i said 6 years ago sucking scores sux, being overgenerous andrew jefford, jansis r. or wojciech bonkowski bear more weight, pal cheerio
The Hand Movements: just ridiculous. Believing that that works for a YouTube audience, just like a lot of politicians who had this ‘media training’.
Deeply relating to this video, Testamatta was overhyped too much. Its quality isn’t that great, and the price reflects that.
Chateau Montrose is always beautiful.
Is it okay to shake old bottles of wines before you drink them and then pour them right away for drinking? Then drink them right away without seeing if it evolves in the glass? I think a 100 point Bordeaux is a wine that is 50 years old and still tasting great.
What does the spit bucket say?
Also opened a 2005 Cheval Blanc and found it stunningly unimpressive.
Domaine de Chevalier 2010 really disappointed me recently. Rated 95 by Robert Parker and 96 by Suckling. Ordered it in a restaurant and it just didn’t show at all. Maybe it needed 4+ hours decanting but it was really dormant. The structure showed through, but almost no fruit to speak of. With 16 years of age would have thought it would have shown much better than it did.
Montrose has been bought on futures since 2019, 2025 is going to be great again.
I hope you were able to pick up some of the Pontet Canet for your first of the 2025 futures!!!! I needed up getting 12 @79.50 in the states
Hoping you had a good time en France and at least tasted a few 100pt wines there! I do think it's clever to be able to produce a Riesling that's mid priced and yet attracting such high scores.
Great to see you back in the chair after your trip!
Nice one Konstantin. ✨⭐👍
Does anyone know anything about that wine glass?
Nice video again, you present very convincing reviews. Of course it is probably costly to review a lot of the more expensive wines, but it is very infornative to see you present bottles from the 94+ segment.
Does anyone know anything about that wine glass?
"99 plus points" shows just how ridiculous this whole system is. Jesus …
