Some are sweet and pure. Some are acidic. Some are watery. And some… should never touch your pasta.
I’m ranking these popular canned tomatoes based on flavour, texture, consistency and how they perform in a real Italian sauce.

  1. What do you think about rosso gargano tomatoes? In ym opinion they are really good, and they are 2 times cheaper than the same type Mutti potatoes

  2. Oh, c'mon Petti "pride of Tuscany" nun se pò sentì. They've just recently opened a plant in Tuscany, but the family and the original plant are from Nocera Superiore, in the agro sarnese nocerino, where the best tomatoes in Italy are made, same as Gustarosso, Strianese, and any San Marzano.

  3. I always get Mutti. Tried other brands… Mutti is the best and easiest option.

  4. As someone that’s never made sauce from canned tomatoes in my life and almost always uses barilla sauce, I agree with your list 👍

  5. One ingredient is just part of the puzzle in my opinion. If you only have access to D tier you can still make incredible food. I love these kind of lists but don't let the availability stifle your passion ❤️

  6. Fun fact: the tomato plant is not native to Europe. European explorers brought tomatoes back to Europe after they discovered the Americas. The same is true for pineapples and tobacco.

  7. Mutti is so good it's the only one of these I've seen in my country but it's also cheaper than the other brands cans my supermarket sells

  8. Nooooo petti no! In 2021, the Petti case involved an investigation into allegedly mislabeled tomato products sold as “100% Italian.”
Authorities reported finding foreign (non-EU) tomato concentrate that may have been mixed with Italian tomato before packaging.
stopped buying it after that … what a rip-off.

  9. What about Metelliana? I don’t know about tomatoes but chickpeas are S tier for me – very soft, unlike many brands I’ve tried.

  10. Mutti is too price and the quality isn't even 2x the cheaper options at least from my experience

  11. All canned leach out heavy metals from the can. If you like lead in your food eat canned food.

  12. I am from Naples. In Italy they are all cheap tomato cans, 2/4€. Tomatoes are collected in Apulia (in Campania for san Marzano) probably by illegal immigrants and mixed with chinese tomato. True quality Is home grown

  13. When on sale. We always stock up on Mutti and Strianese. They have good shelf life too. They're great in any tomato sauce dish.
