Which Italian pastry should you order first while in Italy? 🇮🇹🍰

Famiglia, in this video, I try 5 of Italy’s most iconic pastries to see if they live up to the hype. When people think of Italian food, pizza and pasta usually come to mind – but the country’s desserts are just as rich in tradition and flavor.

From crispy, cream-filled classics to soft, delicate pastries, each one has its own history and regional identity. Some are incredibly sweet, others are more subtle, but all of them reflect the craftsmanship and culture behind Italian baking.

As I go through each pastry, I’ll share my honest reactions, textures, flavors, and which ones are actually worth trying. Some surprised me, some didn’t – and a few I’d definitely go back for again.

This is a taste of Italy that every food lover should experience.

If you were in Italy, which pastry would you order first? Let me know in the comments ❤️

  1. Wow, what an amazing video! I've learned so much about Italian pastry, as well as some fascinating history and culture too. Thank you so much for sharing!

  2. Perfect selection 🤩 I live in Sweden and Sfogiatella is my fav pastry in the entire world! After having tried it at Napoli (Sfogiatelle Attanasio bakery). Tiramisu is my second most fav and I am making quite good one at home, similar to how you describe, not any weird version:D Other italian (and also my local swedish) pastries are too sweet for me:) Oh and I don’t like baba at all, even if the idea is interesting:))

  3. Perfect choices. Everything looks so delicious. Irene, you're like a vintage bottle of Valpolicella Classico in that lovely dress as you glow with luminosity, enchanting radiance and refined elegance. Bravo & Saluti!

  4. Last time in Italy I ate a Maritosso, and didn't like it, it is just brioche and cream, no flavor.
Maybe it was the pasticeria but it was in Rome…

  5. Ha. Come to the north, where we make real sweets that are good for you, like pinza with polenta, figs, pine nuts, milk and fennel seeds; or castagnaccio with chestnut flour, raisins, olive oil, pine nuts and rosemary — no sugar.

  6. All of them, it's hard to pick. I think babas impressed me the most. Also pistachio cornetto. 🤤 I think overall Sicily has the best sweets.

  7. Mine like was the 999th like

  8. 0:21 Ma tu di che nazionalità sei? Sento che pronunci la parola “Pistacchio” praticamente come gli americani o gli inglesi (“Pistaccio”).
