This is the traditional Italian Sunday Meat Sauce known as Ragù alla Napoletana. While a Bolognese uses ground meat and dairy, this slow-cooked meat sauce relies on large cuts of beef chuck, short ribs, and pork to dictate the flavor. This is what it takes to make a real Sunday Sauce just like in Naples.

How does your family make Sunday Sauce? Let me know!👇

  1. Did that make me miss my dad now?! Every Sunday we’d spend hours watching him cook that tomato sauce from fresh tomatoes. He’d tell us that it was his mother’s recipe. Lunch was always ready at noon, precisely 🙂

  2. This is one big dish of family memories.
Walking up to the door of the house…….the smells greeting you right before you open the door.
Makes you smile from the inside out.😉

  3. Man! I sure do miss my mom and dad & Sunday suppers. No matter how much I try, mine just doesn’t taste the same 😢. Even my son says, “mom the meatballs are good but their not Nonna good” 😭 thanks for sharing yours looks good!

  4. looks like Sunday's at Grandma's house. Relatives coming in one at a time to make "the entrance", hands filled with a pastry box tied with that special red and white twine. Wish I could smell it. Shouldn't that be called gravy??

  5. I grew up Jewish and Catholic Italian and when we went to Nonna's she made this sometimes after church. She used meatballs, sausage and porkchops. She would cook it the night before and let it sit in the fridge overnight. The flavor is barnone out of this world especially after it marinates.

  6. Hey G I made your bolognese ragu I was wondering do you pour off the fat from the meat I found a lot of fat in the sauce what's your recommendation

  7. Yummy! God bless you. Our family always used a ton of basil. Interesting that you seldom you use basil. Different areas! God bless you!

  8. Four hours???? I always love your cooking, but that seems excessive no? P.S.-now that Bolognese you posted a few weeks ago??!!! Outstanding!! That was an instant hit!! Loved by all. Thank you 😊❤

  9. My mom would always use beef
cubes in her sauce so I do as well…
I’m not sure cooking the raw sausage
in the sauce is the healthiest way to
    go…browning the sausage and rendering
out the fat works well and then you can
control the amount of fat that’s in there.
    Otherwise, nice!
