Thanks to the sub here I took the plunge and got a 3/8" x 16" x 16" pizza steel off a steel shop on eBay. This is my second pizza so far on the steel and can’t be happier with the results! Been making pizzas mostly with the Ooni Karu 12 (~6-8 pizzas) but wanted to switch to indoor home oven due to winter and rainy weather.
Now I feel like the results have been even better with the home oven with less set up, hassle and clean up. With the Ooni, it takes more coordination for my husband to set up table and gas tank, monitor temperature, turn, etc. He also gets stressed out launching. Since the Ooni only fits a 12”, we would need 2 pizzas to feed two while the steel is big enough to make 1 pizza for us. Launch felt very easy for me with the home oven.
Dough is from thedoughguy. Topped with pecorino cheese, 50/50 skim/whole mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, and finished with parmigiano reggiano! Last pizza was plan cheese.
Open to feedback, tips and any easy topping ideas 🙂
