This was fun. Always nice to see stuff I'll probably not try myself.
4 varieties down, ~2450 to go! 🙂
Got this directly from Cogli ‘l Attimo in La Morra. We had visited in October and then it was featured on their Facebook page. They shipped it directly to me in the US in 5 days! Their style is very much like an Arneis. I love it!
Well, Agnes, you succeeded: not only have I never to my knowledge consumed any of these grapes; I’ve never even heard of them. Will be on the lookout!
Jura wines are fascinating! Glad to see more awareness is coming to them.
Keeping with the oddball theme… I'd love for you to review a Torrontés sometime.😊
Definitely! Encruzado, Bical, Alvarelhão, Baga. O did I mention Baga? 😉
Great content, again.
Zweigelt has never appealed to me because lack of structure. I do love the often used glass stoppers.
More videos about lesser known grape varieties would be appreciated!
Hi Agnes,
My wife and I have been traveling around Northern Italy the last four weeks, and while we came for the Barolo, on the Ligurian coast we were introduced to Pigato. Wonderful white that is great with seafood.
I subscribe to Many wine bloggers but I especially like your videos because you cover wines and subject others don't keep up the good work 🍷🍷
I’ve been exploring wines for many, many years, and I have had only two, zweitgelt and poulard, of your four. How many vinefera grapes are there, thousands? So many, so little time! Glad we have you. Interesting video.
Thats nice
This girl posted an avacado sandwich this one time to her instagram like 4 years ago. Omg, it was the best looking sandwich I've ever seen.
Absolutely fun and informative video. The world isn’t just Cabernet or Chardonnay. I’ve been a big fan of looking for off the beaten path grapes, small plots of almost lost varieties, unusual styles, etc. I’d be open to anything, maybe some from Greece, Moldova or other “cradle” countries. Cheers
That was a very interesting video, thank you! And yes I’d love to see another video on the same topic – would you be willing to do Pinotage?
I'm hugely familiar with Zweigelt, but didn't know the other three. Very interesting. Have you tried Lagrein? It is a red wine grape mainly found in South Tyrol/Alto Adige. I had a really delicious bottle in a Munich restaurant five years ago, but have rarely found it since.
Nice intro to those grape varieties! Zweigelt is the only one I've heard of and tried. If you do another similar video, what do you think about Rubin (a Nebbiolo and Syrah cross)? I had a fantastic Bulgarian Rubin a couple of months ago. Saperavi is a personal favorite, but maybe it's a little more well known. Cheers! 🥂
Thanks for the introduction to less common grapes/wine. Please continue as a series when you can! I'm not sure I can find these near me, but I will definitely be looking. Always enjoy your vids! 🥂
Several "strange" grape varieties are appearing here in the Finger Lakes – Lagrein, Tolderego, Blaufrankisch (Lemberger), Dornfelder, Zweigelt, etc. Riesling will always be king here, along with Cab Franc, but t is exciting to try new (to me) varietals.
true, never heard of Nascetta (and I was in Piedmont last year), nor Manzoni Bianco (and I was in Trento-Alto Adige last year too!). These are hard to find in my North American market. But Zweigelt is pretty well known for a couple decades already, no? There are five different Zweigelt reds right now at my local liquor store, and three Zweigelt Rosés. Poulsard is also pretty well known here, especially in Quebec where the SAQ brings in quite a few (but limited quantities). Nice to give these lesser known grapes some publicity!
I appreciate your tasting different varieties. Could you do Ribolla Gialla (Rebula)? I'd also like to see Lacrima, which I had recently and really liked, but haven't had as much of.
Last night I consumed my first Castelão and enjoyed every mouthful (Baía di Tróia is deliciously rich, powerful and velvety smooth red from Portugal) – yummo
Great. Very interesting. Reading the title I immediately told myself Italy and Portugal and definitely not France. To be honest I was only familiar with Zweigelt. Would you also make video for unknown wine regions/countries in Europe
Very interesting series which I hope gets continued in the future.
My entry for the list would be Timorasso 😊
4:41 that color 😮
The only one of these I have heard of is Zweigelt. I have not had it as a stand alone varietal but as the principal grape in a rosé from Gobelsburg. Another good rare wine grape with pronounced minerality and bright acidity from northern Italy is Timorasso, only found in Colli Tortonesi, a small region east of Barolo. Yummy😋
Didn't know about 3 out of 4, you were right!
Thankyou for a very interesting episode. Cant wait to try them, had only tried zweigelt, at least from what I know :). Please continue this series of sort of unknown and exotic grapes tastes and so forth. Great episode!
Hello, great video. They are a lot of Greek grape varieties that are unknown like robola from Ionian Islands.
