  1. As others have mentioned, Little Italy seems to just be a tourist trap. You are also correct that the bigger the menu, the worse the food. Find a place that only makes like three things and they make them spectacularly.

  2. I'm unsure if the name change was a change of ownership, but Casa d' Angelo's was previously Angelo's on Mulberry, and the restaurant and food are the most authentic in the United States. When I used to go there, they had red and white checkered tablecloths, and all the waiters spoke Italian (probably still do). When I first started to go there in the 90s, Carbonara was not on the menu, but I requested it once in the early afternoon, and the chef made it! It was the best ever! With the appetizer, Spiedini alla Romano (previously called Spiedini de Mozzarella alla Romano), this place RULES1 I would bring many friends and business associates, and everyone loved it. I haven't been back since pre-9/11, and I miss it. When the name changed, the Spiedini wasn't even offered – I am glad to see it back on the menu and hope it's the same as previously served. I literally cleaned the plate with bread; the sauce is so delicious.

  3. Paesano, 4/10 you're generous. I felt generous giving it 2/10. Their pasta in the pictures looked atrocious.

  4. 80% of the Italian restaurants in little Italy are Albanian owned. There hasn’t been a little Italy in Manhattan since the late 90’s, they all moved to Staten Island or New Jersey.

  5. I hope you get to visit in person and see if your favorites live up to your rating. I would be interested in seeing a pre and post visit review from you of any restaurant👍😊

  6. You should create a show where you go to Italian restaurants and tell them how their food isn't Italian and you help them make it Italian.

  7. I'm fascinated to know if how many real italian american restaurant in American that doesnt have even a single italian american touch, like most of these seem to. That casa d'angelo seems correct though.

  8. Little Italy in NYC has shrunk, as Chinatown expanded. A good place to review Italian restaurants is Arthur Avenue in the Bronx (NY).

  9. Fun fact: Caesar salad isn't actually American its actually a Mexican dish, The Caesar salad was named after its iventor an Italian immigrant and chef from Baveno named Caesar Cardini who owned an Italian restaurant in Tijuana Mexico in 1924 where he would serve his salad using available ingredients to American tourists. Unlike the Caesar Salad that restaurants often serve all over the world with Creamy Caesar dressing, The original recipe by Cardini didnt have any cream it had only 7 ingredients: egg yolks, lemon juice, ev olive oil, fresh garlic, worcestershire sauce, parmigiano, and Romaine lettuce but today they also add in anchovies and dijon mustard.

  11. You ought to consider doing some actual restaurant reviews. Problem is, you might get recognised and get better treatment.

  12. Unbelievably tragic to watch ! I believe many same menu might be running by renowned chef Gordon Ramsay ! He will soon buy that red wine with Vongole ! He nailed that chef is legend than him.

  13. I have no interest in this place other than that I love to eat there, but if you are in NY and want modern awesome Italian food created by an Italian chef and team, make your way to eastern Long Island and Osteria Umbra in Smithtown.

  14. Very funny . Allow me to contribute to the fun . About 2 years ago a local Amsterdam (Holland) guy invited a friend from Napoli to test the Amsterdam 'trendy' pizza restaurant . Terrible results …once he said ' when you serve this in Napoli they
    k i l l you.
BUT we have some good Italian Restaurants in Amsterdam owned by Italian but you need to know them and please don't select using the regular reviews ..ask Italians where to go.

  15. I can remember going to Rome several years ago, there was a wonderful restaurant on Piazza Barberini, I went there every night, I had a starter, a pasta dish and then another course not pasta such as fish, it was the best I have ever eaten, totally wonderful, but I have also been to Bologna and went to a local very inexpensive restaurant, Formica walls etc and the food there was absolutely fabulous.

  16. Took Vinny 10 minutes of being super nice and tolerant with pancetta until the real Italian critic came out. 🤌

  17. I read reviews from people who have actually visited there when looking at a restaurant – these videos are not helpful as you cannot tell us how their food actually tastes! 🤦🏽‍♀️

  18. little ITaly is its own culture seperate from Italy. it represents NYC culture that you can find all over the ciry, but its a concentration of that culture in this one area. The food is Italian American for the most part. that first restaurant you gave a 5 to but thats really what italian american food looks like lol. these places arent trying to make authentic Italian dishes so i think you are being harsh on them by judging them by those standards. this is an entirely different culture.

  19. Italian food is so overated..it's just pasta cheese bread tomato garlic and basil cooked different ways..it's the world's biggest food con..so bad.

  20. First time in Little Italy in NYC I had a very average espresso coffee in a cafe recommended by a young hipster resident of Manhattan. As an Australian I am both proud and ashamed of our coffee culture in so far as all credit goes to the unfiltered Italian heritage that makes 'our coffee' so good… Italian Australian… Italy first.
I am lucky enough as a Celtic Anglo Australian to have grown up eating home cooked Italian food from a woman who speaks a dialect that no longer exists in Italy!!

  21. While I respect your ranking, and agree that some of these restaurants are not serving authentic Italian food, I think you are missing the whole point. Little Italy is known for its Italian-American food, which could be considered a cuisine in its own right. When you go there, you should not be expecting exact replicas of what you get in Italy. Rather, you should be expecting Italian-American dishes. It would be like going to Australia, eating at Hungry Jacks, and complaining that it's not American enough. I hope that if you do go to Little Italy you keep that in mind.
