Have you ever heard of Cathy Mitchell? She was a television personality, famous for her infomercial appearances where she promoted her bestselling cookbooks, such as “Dump Dinners” and “Dump Cakes and More!”
I’ve always found her—and the creativity of her recipes—fascinating. That’s why for years I’ve collected her cookbooks. However, I’ve never actually tried any of the food. That is, until today, when Eva agreed to try cooking some of Cathy Mitchell’s pasta recipes…
…it didn’t go very well.

Got any good "dump" recipes that you enjoy making? Share your ideas in the comments, we would love some ideas!
It's heartbreaking that people think this is Italian food. And even more heartbreaking that people cook like this. 🙁
Lol. How about Italian Quick Combo Recipes…..or Convenience Cooking The Italian Way. 💙
Belgian and vegetarian here. I love watching your videos and have learnt a lot about Italian cuisine through them. This video made me cringe though. Partly because the dishes really were "pig swill". How people think this is "food" is beyond me. But, 1: At first I didn't not get why Eva pulls that face when she smells the garlic powder. Come to think about it, though, perhaps she reacts the way I do to a pot of ground nutmeg. I can't stand the smell! It's too concentrated. I always use fresh nutmeg; but I use both fresh and powdered garlic (when I don't want it to burn). More importantly 2: my husband, like many people who may not even realise, has kidney problems. Would you please, please stop telling people to add so much salt?! I do use a bit of salt, but the quantities you throw in are murderous! Eating salt is a habit; the more you use it, the more you want to put in. Please consider this; overuse of salt is a major contributing factor in kidney problems and high blood pressure. Anyway, I'm looking forward to more real Italian dishes! ❤
One word…….. Horrific
Ooh, if you want to challenge yourselves again in this way, try Crockpot (slow cooker) Italian recipes. Some can be redeemed! But most that are out there cannot.
That was the most amazing looking Lasagna I’ve ever seen 😂
Wow, I really thought Eva would like the Dump Fettuccine 😂
Thank God you didn't do this when Eva parents were visiting
I could not watch this whole video.
This is like a snuff video for Italians. So horrifying, but strangely itching some sort of curiosity I didn’t even know I had…
Thank you! I always wanted to know about the "dump and go" cookbooks. Now I don't have to waste my money.
PREGO? 😢😮
😂 This was so funny! I couldn’t stop laughing! I had tears coming out of my eyes! 😂
A few years back, I broke my arm in four places necessitating a shoulder replacement. I sought out meals and shortcuts that didn’t require chopping or hovering over the stove. I bought vegetables already cut up or used lots of bagged baby spinach and ate a lot of braised and broiled things. While no dumping was required, I ate well. I can’t imagine anyone eating these three recipes, regardless of how out of it they were when they needed to eat. I would do “girl dinner” before eating this slop.
Least heinous🤣
Not a title that would sell well in the UK – however appropriate. 🙂
From the look on her face, you would think she was changing a toddler’s diaper.
I'll stick with Kim Mitchell and just go for soda
Thank you but I'm with Eva!
Ava deserves a two-week vacation ………. on her own…. after being forced to cook, much less taste, any of that gloop.
Sorry, but Eeeewwwww! Any one who includes dump recipes (dumping containers of ingredients in a dish together and bake or microwave) knows nothing about cooking. Her stuff is for people in rural America, lower middleclass vvalues, and no knowledge of life outside their area in the US, let alone arpund the world.
Seriously, you need to apologize to your wife and grovel, for making her use those claptrap recipes.
Harper: It looks great.
Me: It looks like Italian chef nightmare fuel.
The word "dump," should never be associated with food.
Ah, the good old days are back. Where Harper tortures Eva with American food! I smiled through the whole thing. Sorry Eva, but it's pretty funny. 😅🤣😂
Il signor De Cecco si è girato nella tomba. ✖️
When I was young and sent by my Grandfather to do grocery shopping he would call me a "shoemaker" if I brought home rigatoni instead of mostaccioli. He was from Rovegno in the North, apparently back then rigatoni was Sothern?
Love it, this was great. 😅
Americans are stupid, that is why they have the stupidest most corrupt president in office. I have been a working wife, mother, and grandmother for over 45 years. I found it easy to make real home cooked meals in 20 to 30 minutes and if we want something special, I can make it on my day off and someone can warm it up on the day we are eating. I don’t need to waste money on chef cooked meals delivered to my house or use these horrible hacks. A woman just needs to know how to stock their fridge, freezer, and pantry and know how to cook. I make Italian meals and meals from around the world. We have days where my family picks a country for our dinner and I make something they never had before. Maybe my Sicilian grandmother taught me something I don’t realize other women don’t know. These women better get ready as Trump is forcing us into another Great Depression so he and his billionaire friends don’t ever pay taxes again.
Eva, draw a line. Refuse to be tortured.
Those cookbooks are absolute junk.
Basta!
I've never been to Italy. I have English, Scottish and French heritage. I currently live over 3000 miles from Italy – and even I was offended at these "meals" on behalf of all Italians lol
Eva is right, these meals are crap. Iwll not be watching this shit.
In the fettuccine pot, was that a teaspoon or tablespoon of garlick powder?
Anyone whose main word in food prep is “dump” cannot win me over. I find it repulsive. Of course, I am Italian and I cringe at the use of prepared American ingredients to make something “ homemade.” Gracie a Dio for Ava!
The irony is that many pasta dishes are already quick and easy to make.
I think this kind of recipes takes advantage of people who have no confidence in their own cooking. But with this approach, they’ll never learn.
I see a lot of recipes advertised as having only two or three ingredients. I don’t think that’s a good thing. First, most of them are lying. Once you get into the recipe, you see there are more than two or three ingredients.
Second, it’s the wrong approach to cooking. You should focus on the techniques, not how many ingredients there are.
Third, anybody can play that game. One-ingredient cannoli: get some cannoli from the bakery, and open the box. One-ingredient sausage: Take some sausage out of the package it comes in. Yes, but so what?
I heard of 'Dump' recipes but these? The recipe gives no thought to technique, seasoning or taste. they are for those who haven't any experience cooking and simply not knowing what taste standard should be. I thank the Grammar challenge to highlight which cookbook to avoid. Coming from a family of cooks and bakers these dishes look pedestrian.
Dump is a word that should be used after dinner, not before!
If that is lasagna, you might as well call goulash lasagna.
UNSUBSCRIBED
but LoL, jk, was hilarious.
BUT PLEASE don't do a part-2. EVER.
Actually it's quite hard to 1 pot or "dump" cook. It does require skill.
It took me 4 or 5 tries to get one of the recipes I've thought of right (I must say that all of the ingredients are natural non transformed ones, like different kinds of vegetables, pork belly, herbs and such).
You have to be right on time when you add your ingredients if you want them to be well cooked at the end.
Americans are so graphic. Dump! The epitomy of finess. Harper don't bother with this crap and stick to original recipes, per favore!!!!
If you call anything “Dump (blank),” it makes me not want to eat it, or even be in the same house with it.
An older, less offensive term is “One-Pot Dinners,” or “One-Dish Meals.” If you want to do recipes that use just one cooking vessel, call them that.
That second dish looked like something you would find in a witches cauldron. None of this edible. 14:03
You should recreate these recipes to a more edible “Eva approved” creation.
Have you and Ava seen any of the Pasta Queen’s content on YouTube or read her cook book? If so thoughts?
Dump dinner, as in, dump it right in the bin.
Could you have picked a worse recipe? What a waste.
