  1. A good and informative video, cheese is my favorite addiction. 😍
Other than the pine nuts, it sounds like a recipe for queso blanco.

  2. Max, if you’re looking for topics, there’s the whole world to choose from. How about the ancient chinese? Recipes, cookware, utensils, seating utensils, table manners? I’d love to visit other cultures’ histories.

  3. 2:58 whoa whoa Max! You can't just casually drop this fact on me and not expect my mind to be blown! That's not casual fact tier, that's game show question tier.

  4. If you live within the borders of the former Roman empire you get to experience a lot of kinds of cheese, especially the fresh (whiter) ones. Americans and germanic peoples prefer preserved cheezes more

  5. Rennet fun fact: today, virtually all rennet in cheese production is made from the fermentation of genetically-modified bacteria! They figured out how to put the gene for chymosin (which is the "active ingredient" in rennet) into E. coli, which produces tons of it without having to slaughter a bunch of livestock. We get insulin from the same process – before, we had to harvest it from pig pancreas; now, we use bacteria.

  6. @ 11:10

    "Rrrrich Corinthian Statues!"

    –Augustus, apparently…

    @ 19:20

If so, then this law was on the books for about five centuries until Justinian had it revoked by Emperor Justin, so he could marry Theodora, who was an actress by trade (among other things, if Procopius is to be believed).

Justinian would later become emperor, and she his empress.

  7. Okay, where is the pokemon? And since Augustus Caesar's vocabulary isn't only his name, roaring, robot noises, talking backwards, or, ya know, just screaming, he doesn't count.

  8. Literally turned on the videos as I always do while I’m gaming… shocked to see it was Civ 7 sponsored as I play Civ 7 😂

  9. I so enjoy your videos. You make cooking look a lot easier than I find to be! I love the History sections. You put so much research into each episode. I am not a real history nerd, but I love the stuff you come up with and especially appreciate the way you present it, the way you pronounce words in other languages! You wouldn't happen to be interested in narrating audio books, would you? You would be great at it and I can only dream of hearing your voice narrating the Fourzan Saga (my books) and getting all the pronunciations correct! Thank you for all the entertainment you provide.

  10. He was a successful ruler but a complete monster, even by the standards of his time

The proscriptions were simply a way to raise money for his soldiers and most wouldn’t have been criminals just rich aristocratic enemies of Augustus or just the unlucky

  11. I wish I had more money to donate. But I bought your cookbook for my mom for her birthday. I introduced her to you and she loves you!

  12. I feel like this was less of a video on Roman cheese, and more of a love letter to Augustus.

  13. Yup gag gifts started at Saturnalia and the dumber / worse the gift, the closer it signified the recipient was to the giver. The raw steak person would be the better friend or ally

  14. You have a lot filler by the stove in your kitchen? Have you been finding it to be worth it? Was considering one, but people have complained that they regret it because you need to go to the sink to drain your pasta and such anyways. So a pot filler (whose purpose is to avoid needing to go to the sink) ends up being pointless.

  15. 17:20 Regarding Augustus's tendency to not eat during his feasts, I feel that is pretty classic host behaviour. All too often, you are busy entertaining your guests and making sure they are enjoying themselves, that their food is alright, and aren't left wanting.
