Is homemade pasta really better than pasta straight from the box? Julia Child thinks so.

🍝 “It [costs] half as much and twice or three times as good, if you make it yourself.”

Though the cost of pasta makers has gone up since this video first aired, what do you think? Is homemade pasta worth the trouble?

This clip is from the television series ‘Over Easy,’ 1980. Another gem pulled from the KQED Archives.

  1. When I was in highschool, my mom died. She had cancer. Julia's show was a lifesaver as my mother languished. My mom made dinner every single day, seven days a week. She was no Julia Child, but just the act of doing it was a remarkable feat. I learned to make fresh pasta from Julia. They were egg noodles I think. I thought my father was going to kill me when he came home and saw the mess I had made!

  2. Well yeah but making your own pasta is something not everybody does or has the time for

  3. What did people learn? Nothing.
Everyone's crying poor and demanding it all but will complain that it's too hard

  4. Always have wanted too. One day I’m only worried that I’ll like it so much that I won’t be able to go back. Like with mayo

  5. I have the one my dad bought in the 1980's. The knife rollers don't work very well, but the rolling piece is a life saver! Today, that model costs the upside of 70 USD

  6. Personally I've switched to just lentil based pasta or sometimes whole wheat. Otherwise i get a huge carb hunger afterwards, best suggestion from my dietician ever
