Salat Italia (Italian Salad)
Ingredients:
1 can of tuna (in water or oil, as preferred)
1 medium onion, thinly sliced into rings
1 cup grated cheese (like Gouda, Parmesan, or your choice)
1 small head of lettuce or mixed greens (optional base)
1 cup cooked pasta (optional for a pasta salad variation)
For the Dressing:
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon vinegar (white wine or apple cider)
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: a pinch of paprika or chili powder for spice
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Base:
Layer the lettuce or mixed greens (if using) on a serving plate or in a bowl.
Spread the grated cheese evenly over the greens.
2. Add the Tuna and Onion:
Drain the canned tuna and distribute it evenly over the cheese layer.
Add the onion rings on top.
3. Make the Dressing:
In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, ketchup, olive oil, and vinegar until smooth.
Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices to taste.
4. Assemble the Salad:
Pour the prepared dressing evenly over the salad.
Let it sit for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
5. Serve:
Serve the salad chilled or at room temperature. It can be a side dish or a light meal.
