The holiday season is just around the corner, and you know what that means—it’s panettone time!
This iconic Italian dessert, originally from Milan, is tall, dome-shaped, and bursting with festive charm. Made with ingredients like butter, dough, natural yeast, candied orange peel, sultanas, and sometimes a hint of vanilla beans, panettone is light, airy, and delicately sweet. Some modern variations even include chocolate versions with chocolate chips, dark chocolate, pistachios, honey, or cream fillings. Many people mistakenly compare it to fruitcake or even call it a cake, but let me tell you—it’s nothing like fruitcake! It can actually be likened more to a sweet bread, as it is made with sourdough starter traditionally which ferments it, giving panettone its signature aroma and spongy texture.
In Italy, panettone isn’t just a dessert; it’s a tradition. It’s the perfect gift, lovingly shared with family and friends, and proudly placed as the centrepiece on the holiday spread.

  1. Are you getting a kickback of tremarie? 😂 I don’t care for panettone, it’s too dry and tasted like rehydrated cardboard.😂

  2. Grazie Mille Vincenzo for an awesome review. Many of these brands are available in Greece too so now I can impress my Italian husband with some panettone taste test skills😊

  3. Just the kind of review I’ve been needing! You helped take the guess work out picking the best one. Thanks!

  4. So much appreciate this channel. Vincenzo keep me skinny cause i can only look. I love the panettone even if not so good can always fry in little butter with the sugar powder and coffee.
Love the comment from your friend who gives to his Mom for breakfast until Easter. That was a good smile!

  5. Do you guys have chocolate panettone in italy as well, Vincenzo? In Brazil i think the chocolate ones are even more popular than the ones with fruit. It's named "Chocottone" here 😂😂

  6. I live in America and have bought ALDI's before and thought it was very good. I once bought a different brand that looked to be Italian, but when I looked on the box it said Made in BRAZIL!

  7. go Aldi!!!! I try different brands of panettone every year and while the more expensive ones are definitely richer, they can be "too much" for my taste. It's also getting harder to find just a simple, traditional version, instead of something with chocolate or pistachio or vanilla cream in the middle, or loaded with chocolate chunks or cherries or other non-traditional stuff. These aren't bad, per se, they are just not hitting the spot like a traditional, simpler version does.

I'm definitely going to try the Aldi version this year, though – your reaction was very encouraging!

  8. After watching your video, I bought the Tre Marie's dark chocolate panettone. It's unreal! thank you for your recommendation.

  9. Thank you Vincenzo for reviewing the ALDI panettone. Our family has no history or tradition with panettone so we had no idea which were good ones. I started buying my mother the ALDI panettone a few years back and she really liked it so i get her one every year. Glad to know i didn't choose badly and maybe I'll try to get her a Tres Marie this year now I know its better. Merry Christmas.

  10. This year here, in Lithuania, is some kind of craze. Panettones are all over the stores and markets! They are everywhere!

  11. We tried Tre Marie and Maina based on your videos from 2 years ago. We loved the Maina until we tried the Tre Marie! It was amazing! How would you rate Maina today comparing with these panetonne from your current video? I am shocked by the Aldi rating and wondering if it compares with the Maina. The stores where I live are selling out of the Tre Marie!
