  1. How'd you pull that cart so easily? Mine are always jammed together and I really gotta work to get it pulled from the row of carts😂

  2. Thank you for these great recipes for the week. I'm looking forward to the chili baked potato most of all.

  3. This is exactly what I am looking for real food for real families. Just subscribed. Cookbooks and some cooking channels can be so overwhelming for me. I want to cook simply with healthy ingredients. I did order your cookbook and hoping it won't be too overwhelming for me. But this is really what I need right now. I may need to adjust for salt content.

  4. I love your creative and delicious recipes that you share! So simple and delicious!Your cookbook is a great resource on those occasional night you feel desperate for a great recipe!! Merry Christmas! Enjoy your beautiful family!

  5. I have watched many cheap meal recipes. And this one is the best by far! My family would eat everyone! You did a phenomenal job putting this one together. I gonna try everyone !
    Thanks

  6. If you let the beans soak overnight in the refrigerator, they will cook a lot quicker and you'll save money on electricity. Just drain and rinse them after soaking and cook in fresh water.

  7. The idea of throwing the chili over the top of baked potatoes is just AWESOME! I don't know WHY after so many years of cooking, I have never thought to do this!!! Thanks Julia!!!

  8. I already own 2 copies of your cookbook. For my home and for my rv. I can’t wait for your next cookbook. Keep on cranking out those videos! Crispy bean burritos! Great tip. A little cheese would be good to add. Thanks Julia

  9. If you haven’t tried, you should try making chicken broth/stock in the crockpot using a chicken carcass/bones! Just tried it for the first time and it made delicious chicken soup the next day – and I didn’t even add anything to it like vegetables or herbs. I’m sure it would have been even better if I did that

  10. Thanks for sharing! Wanted to share one more money saving tip which has been followed for generations in my home country and I try to do it too here in US. We buy yearly groceries at once and then buy fresh produce and diary either every day or twice a week. Things like cooking oil, salt, beans or any other dry items doesn't go bad when bought in bulk and stored. I buy huge gallon of cooking oil and couple of boxes of salt when in deal. I am a vegetarian and eat more beans, lentils, rice which too I buy in bulk and store it which goes for almost entire year. At the start of the year, I maybe spending over $100, but then when I buy just fruits and veggies every week, my bill is usually between $20-$30 or sometimes even less than $20. If I had Walmart nearby, it would have been even less for me 🙂

  11. Hi Julia, I know this is going to sound absolutely ridiculous but thank you for showing me how to cut potatoes like that because I’ve never been good at it.

  12. I just bought the book! I was reading through the comments and it was just amazing to see how you are helping others who are struggling just to put a meal together with today's grocery prices! I was telling my husband about you and how you put together good meals on a budget a long time ago before we even had the inflation as we do now. Thank you Julia and I wish the best for you, God Bless.

  13. I finally decided to go ahead and buy your cookbook, not only for me, but for my daughters as well. I really need to plan things out way in advance. But, sometimes I just don't have the time. I try to keep a stocked pantry and freezer, but I also have picky eaters. I would probably eat a lot of the meals you cook.

  14. I loved the suggestions for versatile and economical ingredients. Thank you so much for sharing these practical and creative ideas! 🥰

  15. You made a delicious chili recipe and many affordable, yummy recipes that are easy to follow. This will help many families and people who are on a tight budget. Thank you! 😊

  16. Over all the ingredients aren’t healthy. The one thing that I got from your video was that the meals will not feed a family with maybe 2 kids. You made chili with 1/2 pound of turkey. That will not be a meal for 4 people. This is the same for each meal. Not much protein in those meals. Like I said not healthy at all.

  17. Just a hint. When cooking with tomato paste, caramelise it withe the onions a little before adding other ingredients. Boosts the flavour intensly. 😋

  18. Tomato paste is up nearly 400%!!! I used to buy cases of it for $.24 for the food pantry where I volunteer. I still buy it, just not cases of it. 😅

  19. The Walmart frozen veggies are SO GOOD. I kind of like Walmart, at least in my area, but my wife can't stand the vibe. To people like her: Try the curbside pickup! This lets you get the value without the shopping experience which, like I said, I enjoy but you may not!

I love how excited you are about the good food in front of you. I recently volunteered at a food bank drive-up distribution line and I felt the same way. "This is such good food! I'm so excited for you to have it!"

(Which is another reminder to those trying to eat on a budget: If you're strapped for cash, the local food bank is there for you! They are excited to get food onto your plate, and judgment-free.)

  20. Mix a teaspoon of cornstarch in a 1/4 cup of cold water and add it to your stew while it’s boiling and stir well. It will thicken up and be more filling.

  21. Can I just say your Walmart is so much cheaper than ours up in N ID but I love the great deals and easy recipes.

  22. These are amazing videos for people of all walks in life, i do have one question though. Which country are you in where the prices are that low at walmart? There is never a time i will find an item for less than 2.50 unless its fresh fruit or veggies by the weight

  23. I love to watch your videos. I have cooked for decades but seeing your enthusiasm makes me happy. I love to cook and you also see the healthy benefit of cooking family meals. I particularly like the pointers you give us for shopping at Walmart. It helps stretch the Social Security check and yet eat tasty and nutritious meals. God Bless you and your family.
