I've never heard of some of these dishes. Others were simply dishes that had been served up by my grandmother from before I was born. And the best of them have not been forgotten.

Back when my family was young I regularly fed them black beans and yellow rice that when mixed came out purple. I used a packet of saffron rice and a can of black beans with Greek seasoning and sometimes sour cream. You do what you have to when your single income household has to budget carefully.
