Chef Keith Snow from http://www.HarvestEating.com creates the perfect Italian sandwich.
Hi I’m chef Keith snow welcome to my kitchen I want to show you how to make a really simple Italian styled sandwich I grew up in northern New Jersey and a lot of Italian Americans up there and they make beautiful sandwiches at the delis which are all over you know the city up
There New York City and just in the outskirts beautiful let’s get started right away our first ingredient is our bread and this is a chia bhatta bread this is an artisan bread baked at a bakery and what we’re going to do is take a serrated knife we’re gonna cut
Two slices of it and up-north a lot of times you’ll get what they call a hero and they just do it a tremendous job all the meats are very high quality and that’s what really helps to make a good sandwich our next step is this lettuce
Here and this is an organic heart of romaine lettuce and what we want to do here is make a very fine shred we do not want big pieces of lettuce and the shredded lettuce is what really gives it a special texture when you have it up north that should be enough for this
Sandwich so we’ll transfer it over to this little Bowl and up there when you get a sandwich from the deli the Alaska if you want oil and vinegar and most people will put oil and vinegar in this case we’re going to use some harvest eating vinaigrette recipe for this is on
The website we’ll put a good bit of that on there it’s going to give a tremendous flavor so we’ll just mix it up we’re going to add some black pepper and we’ll let this sort of marinate in the dressing while we assemble the rest of our sandwich and you want this moist
And that’s perfect okay so now over here to our meat we have three meats we’ve got a beautiful all-natural ham you want to stack these up pretty thick and that’s a nice ham there and then this is some really nice provolone a cheese we’ll put two slices
And this is it gorgeous handmade salami and you can see that this was a salami that was about that wide sliced thin really high-quality and when you’re making a sandwich like this if you use sort of cheap deli meat you’re kind of missing the boat there
So we’ll put maybe even one more piece of that nice salami on there our last piece of provolone a on top and now we’re gonna take our gorgeous lettuce and sort of pile it up on this sandwich I cannot wait to eat this I’ll be honest
With you let me clean up a bit so we’ll take our top put it on there and then we’ll cut this sandwich in half and then we’re going to transfer it over to our little serving plate I’ll open it up so you can see the inside so there you have a beautiful Italian
Style sandwich with high quality meats make this one for lunch sometime soon the harvest eating community celebrates the benefits of a healthy eating lifestyle through seasonal organic and local foods to view more of chef snow’s recipe videos and to experience the harvest eating lifestyle visit harvest eating calm harvest eating Four Seasons

Keith

Keith
i think he's asking salami and ham together? and than sth. with french bread i guess from toscana… sth. like that xD
all depends where you live….Publix supermarkets and Stop & Shop and others carry boar's Head which are pretty darn good
keith
sono italiano..non credo che qui si mangi lattuga salsa rosa salame prosciutto e provola….CMQ COMPLIMENTI
was the third meat capicola?
Go to Fiacco's pork store in NYC and order this: Hero with ham, salami, prosciutto, capicola, soppressata, provolone, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, lettuce, cracked black pepper and roasted red peppers. THAT'S an italian sandwich. The sandwich shown on the video looks tasty, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't compare.
nj def does have the best subs
chia-batta = cha-ba-ta, provolon'A = provolone…lol he aint from brooklyn,
This is not italan, you should change the title to italian-american. Us Italians usually don't use 2 kinds of meat products and, at least where I live you don't put lettuce with salame or prosciutto cotto (ham).
@keithsnow your right i'll agree with you on that!!! i want to eat that right now, keep the videos coming man! yummmM!
do we rly make these kind of sandwiches?
NEVER slice thick pieces of meat, alway s paper thin to be able to discriminate the three different meats, cheese it does not matter though, but thin is better if you alternate the meats. Bread should be a roll with the dough-ee center removed to make room for the contents. hot capacolla ham is the preferred third meat
Well, all i can say is..That you sure can live on these sandwiches, but not for a long time hehe.. Can you imagine the amount of cholesterol, saturated fat and calories in one of these sandwiches? Even the added lettuce won't rectify the damage. But, hey.. i bet it tastes good though and modern American cuisine is all about the taste anyway..Who cares about all the nutrition, right? 🙂 I know I do…
What a beautiful kitchen… I would want a kitchen like that. The lighting is also wonderful… And its so clean…. you have made me happy… what a wonderful kitchen…
NOMNOMNOM!!!
Excellent. This looks delicious.
Fine, sure, this is technically Italian-American food, but that makes it actually BETTER than pure Italian food.
wow! thats some cold cuts and cheese with bread, not the other way around xD
@Bigazzi quote
that sandwich sucks!
@keithsnow … hmmm I know that feeling :)) sun dried??
"we have 3 meats" you only used 2? 😛 ham and salami?
This is a variation of the spring sandwich (typical Italian sandwich named "panino primavera"), but instead of provolone in Italy we put the mozzarella, then salad, a slice of tomato, ham and a bit of mayonnaise. Absolutely never put two types of meat in a sandwich. The secret of a good panino primavera is to warm the bread with the ham in the plates, then add mozzarella, tomato, lettuce and mayonnaise, all cold … the contrast between hot and cold, brings all the flavors… good appetite.
i love a big pile of meat with my dinner as much as the the next person, but that is just way too much. you will be shitting through the eye of a needle
Dear God!
Nice, but you forgot the potatoe chips on the side.
thumbs up if you're watching these sandwich videos, while eating an actual sandwich.
