Limoncello is one of the most refreshing summer drinks for warm days. It’s easy to make at home with this authentic, Italian recipe,

to make Limoncello
Rind of 3 lemons (avoid as much of the white skin as possible)
8 oz everclear (120, 151 or 191 proof)
8 oz water
5/8 cup sugar

Take the rind of 3 lemons and put in a clean mason jar
Pour 8 oz of everclear over top and let steep in the fridge for 3 to 5 days
After the steeping time has passed, strain the alcohol lemon mixture into another mason jar, reserving the rinds.
Heat a pan over medium heat and add 8 oz of water and sugar. Dissolve sugar.
After sugar has dissolved, add rinds to pan and let cool
Pour everclear mixture into a clean bottle and add cooled water mixture slowly to combine
Store limoncello in the refrigerator and serve chilled

For making limoncello with vodka, try to use the highest proof vodka you can find
Follow the same procedure as above only use 4 lemons and let steep for 1-2 weeks…the result will be a more transparent limoncello rather than opaque and with a lower alcohol content

  1. Does your homemade one taste different than the store bought? When I tried a purchased one it tasted more sweet I couldn’t taste the lemon, but perhaps it’s because it’s just the rinds and not the lemon juice. I wonder if I could add some lemon juice to make it more lemon flavoured.

  2. Can more lemon rind be used for a stronger lemon flavor without changing the volume of alcohol and simple syrup?
    Very interesting recipe and process.

  9. This is the easiest recipe I have found. I assume you can make this with limes as well? I've yet to find one either online or in a store.

  10. I make lemoncello for my church fair and it always sells out because we have a lot Italians on Staten Island. I even made an Orange-cello that people loved. It's surprisingly easier than people think. This year I'm making a homemade Chambord ❤
