I can imagine how serious pizza wars got in the ancient times.
Now we know how Big Caesar's went out of business..
Nobody in the Americas had heard of tomatoes until they were brought back from a remote part of Peru by the European invaders. Easy jump to start putting new and exotic toppings on the flatbread. They would have found tomatoes went well with it.
I would imagine that throwing toppings on a piece of flattened bread has been around for several thousand years.
Those slim little chunks are pineapple proving once and for all it DOES belong on pizza!
