Milk + Red bloody meat… bahh… don't care if it's tasty, the idea doesen't sit well. – But more importantly – This women needs to learn how to crack a smile once in a while!! (-;
alot of times chopped tomatoes are a diff type of tomato to the canned peeled plum tomatoes and are usually just labeled chopped tomatoes (no plum)… u will see a difference in the color… the plum tomatoes will be a deeper red and richer.. so yeah really the difference is the type of tomato.. if u go to italy you will see pretty much the only tomatoes they sell are plum tomatoes.. so even though you have to chop them yourself they are the better option.. hope this answers your question.. 🙂
@nit1374 traditional Italian ragu does have full fat milk and white wine, not red wine. It seems strange but you need to reduce them down for a long time, until the juice is almost gone, but it is delicious!! You should try it!! The longer the sauce is cooked the better! Within reason, obviously, I wouldn`t cook it for longer than 4/5 hours.
Love her! I wish the Food Network in the states would air her shows. They relegated Nigella to once a week and have Giada and Rachael Ray on 24/7. TDL is so different. She is fabulous.
@ncbotfish I wish the states would air or at least start a "River Cottage" to show everyone how they can raise their own chickens and have an organic garden. For some reason HGTV which has Garden in it's tile has like 1% of it's programming for gardening. I stopped watching because I got sick of watching rich people buy second homes and gay guys renovate houses for stupid straight women.
3 hours cooking! LOL i am Italian we never cook bolognese for 3 or 2 hours–well -what u do expect from a Brit they dont know how to cook LOL–milk is optional- always–and its no considered true Italian to use it–her sauce was like a pile of Sh…t –

I've seen Italian chefs using milk in their recipes many times and this is her summer chalet…

what veg???
1part celery 1 part carrots 2 parts onion, it's called a soffrito or mirepoix
The milk can seem a little bit odd, but it is actually working amazingly ( I've tried it ). And I love her Kitchen Bible, this is a very useful Book.

fuzzy wuzzy was a bear, fuzzy wuzzy had too much hair!
Ma è possibile che gli stranieri rovinano tutte le ricette italiane, il latte nel ragù!!! ma è da pazzi. Signora legati i capelli quando cucini.
Even the Accademia Italiana della Cucina said for their 1982 official Bolognaise recipe that milk should be used

i absolutely love your hair! and it is soo good!
the original recipe is :oil, onion, celery, carrots, beef, pork, vegetable broth, salt, pepper, tomato sauce, red wine a glass. 1 cup whole milk
My landlord would throw me out if I had an animal in my apartment. Chickens are impractical for many people.

no thyme? oregano? mixed herbs?
Please add more episodes with Tamasin. She's my favourite food presenter and cookery writer.
I still use milk to this day! Only now are chefs realising the benefits is milk in a ragu
