Welcome to Wine Travel to Sicily; visiting the soul of Mt. Etna; the soul of passion and light (Animaetnea) – another episode of On the Road Edition hosted by Stevie Kim. In this episode Stevie continues her discovery of Sicily and the Moretti Cuseri Sicilian estates. Today she is at the Etna, the highest volcano in Europe and cradle of marvelous wines. Here Stevie visits the Animaetnea in Contrada Santo Spirito di Passopisciaro, accompanied by special guides Alberto and Amedeo Moretti Cuseri owners of the estate. Located at 700 meters above sea level the estate counts twenty hectares, nine of which are vineyard are cultivated with Etna’s native grapes Nerello Mascalese, Carricante, and Minnella. These vines, many of which were planted 100 years ago, bring their force from the unique volcanic soil, the great temperature range between day and night, and the ventilation. Climate, history, and nature combined, created “Animardente” Etna Rosso Doc and “Animalucente” Etna Bianco Doc.
Animaetnea in Contrada Santo Spirito di Passopisciaro is a project created recently in 2014 by Moretti Cuseri family. The winery is located on Etna, 700 metres above sea level, it is the Moretti Cuseri family’s latest winery, joining the other four estates: Sette Ponti, Orma, Poggio al Lupo and Feudo Maccari. The Moretti Cuseri family’s adventure in the wine business began in the 50s when Alberto Moretti Cuseri acquired the first 55 hectares of land in Tuscany from the princesses Margherita and Maria Cristina di Savoia d’Aosta. In the 1990s, his son Antonio Moretti Cuseri took control of the estate and began his project in the world of wine, which led him to release his first label in 1998. Thus began the history of Tenuta Sette Ponti, the first winery of the family. In 2018, together with Antonio Moretti Cuseri, his sons Amedeo and Alberto started to take over the estates.
