A VICE News Tonight investigation has found the group’s tentacles are deep into Italy’s food production, from field to fork. But one thing hasn’t changed: the criminal group has shown it is still prepared to kill to defend its interests.

  1. Well. All governments have similar characteristics as a mafia. Sometimes a real mafia might even care about locals better than a government would do. Mafias can be good for a society.

  2. The more I watch this documentary, the more I'm convinced that most major governments are just like the mafia

  3. I never saw any evidence the police use entrapment to catch the Mafia. The downside of boldness is you can be entrapped.

  4. Don't think for one minute that we're immune, America. As global warming intensifies, there shall be fewer and fewer places on Earth where we can obtain safe food and potable water. Golly gee whiz, I wonder what happens then???

  5. You just tell the mobsters, hey Vinne, I knew you since 12, get out of the way of the tomatoes.

  6. To answer the title of this vid…
    How – by force
Why – wasn't asked in the title but the answer is simple…they were hungry.

  7. The mafia are parasites on Italian society. They rely on the labor of hardworking normal Italians while destroying their own local economies and culture.

  9. In Mexico , cartels now get a piece of every single avacado and lime that is exported to the USA. IT IS the CJNG who tend to take from the farmers. On the other hand the Sinaloa cartel forbid their people from extortion and abuse of the general public. That is why the Sinaloa Cartel has been running with the populace helping their leaders hide from the government since the late 70s

  10. It's like living with two governments and being taxed twice. The mafia shouldn't be profiting off legal goods. They should focus only on the things the government refuses to legalize.

  11. What happened to Vice’s video on the Mafia’s involvement with pizza shops in NYC? I can’t find it anymore and it was good content like this!

  12. The mafia has always been a form of escapism for individuals too dimwitted or lazy to be legitimate members of society like the rest of us. No sympathy for these losers and may they rot in prison.

  13. The bravery of Mr. Ciccio Capizzi is outstanding. Too bad the hundreds of thousands of Sicilians are cowards in enabling the leech mafia neighbor that live next door continue enslaving the society. Born in Sicilia.

  14. so they took that company from its rightful owners and gave it to the employees. thats illegal and worse than what the mafia is doing. this is equity and this is against what the US was founded on.

  15. Nice video Vice, there are similarities to how the deeply rooted the cartels are with the Mexican food industry, especially with avocados and limes. I just wish their was more community resilience in my country not only to confront the criminal governance and the rotten narcobusinesses they impose, but also the corrupt bastards responsible for aiding them.
